Hell has frozen, pigs have flown, the 42 year old round mound by the pound got all of this one:

Is there a more unlikely homerun in MLB history? Colon surpasses the lanky one, Randy Johnson, for oldest pitcher to hit his first career homer. Is that right?

The call by Gary was great! :D

Even better - the Mets snapped a modest 2 game slide

Not sure which was better, the homer or Gary Cohen's call. Great moment.

Well, I was closer to Julio Franco's age when he hit his last one, but not his body type...now that someone my 'size' has hit one, he's almost a generation younger...man, I'm trying to identify with these folks, but it's getting tougher all the time.

Not a Mets fan, but that was special. Colon smiling and laughing as he rounded the bases, it was pure giddiness. All of the players in the dugout vacated, so Colon was the only player downing the stairs after getting a handshake from Collins.

That was fun.

Thanks for posting this.

This was an understatement from an oh eighty whatever lifetime hitter.

"Anytime I see a fastball I swing hard because I'm not a curveball hitter," he added.

Bartolo's first home run in a twenty year career is clearly a significant accomplishment.

However, what seems even more incredible (perhaps not) is that Bartolo has never walked in 20 years. His strike out to walk ratio is 121/0.
Even Ron Herbel, with a career BA of .029 and no home runs, was able to draw 8 walks in slightly fewer plate appearances.

Perhaps now that Bartolo is considered a power hitter, he will be pitched to with greater care. I expect that his first base on balls will occur soon.:D

The inability to draw walks will hurt his sabrmetrics.

Due to his predominently American League career, the majority of Bartolo's plate appearances have occured in the last three years of his twenty year career. The damn DH rule destroyed his shot at becoming the second Babe Ruth. Who knew?

Love it! Always liked Fat Bartolo. And the teammates hiding in the dugout was classic!

Given his bulk, waiting to hear from all the 'roid conspiracy morons. He got all of it and it wasn't off a slouch.
