Hey guys. I need some help on a set of baseball cards that a seller has that I'm interested in. Did a little research but not find a lot of information, so any information would be greatly appreciated.

I found 12 1937 goudey thum movie cards (flip books). From what I can see there are 13 cards/ flip books in the set.

The cover colors of these cards/flip books are either red or blue...so my guess is that there are two versions of this set. Looking online I also saw black covers, but these seem to be from part 2 of the collection?

The 12 cards/flip books are being sold for $150, but are in decent shape. Rounded corners slight crease.

Can anyone someone tell me more about these...if te value is there...what the difference is in colors?? Anything would be great...if need to gather as much info as possible before tomorrow at 11 am!!!!!

Cheers

I did the search on the checklists, but they are so vague. There is no other information posted that I know of, discussing the different colors and what they mean. I don't even know which on is more rare.

All I can find is the checklist, which outlines the 13 card set.

Can anyone else help???

This was moved to the Pre-war (WWII) forum from the post war (WWII) forum. Good luck in the quest and happy hunting.

Look in the Standard Catalog under "1938 Goudey Big League Baseball Movies". There are 13 different players, but 12 of the 13 had a part 1 and a part 2. If you look at the cover, it will tell you whether you have a part 1 or a part 2. There are 4 DiMaggio's. All for say Joe, but 2 of them actually picture Vince.

If I could purchase 12 of these for $150, assuming they are in decent condition, I would absolutely buy them. The Dimaggio's book for $140 ea in VG condition.

Good luck. Rick

BTW, there is no difference in value between the Part 1's and the Part 2's.

Appreciate the reply. I ended up buying the 12 today for $120.
These are the 1937 version though. I've seen the 1938's which came with a part 1 and part 2. The ones I'm referring to did not have a cover with a picture of the player stating anything other then them being a thum movie. The covers are red or blue. My guess has been that a red and blue color variety were made..nothing different about them except the color of the book.

Still looking for more information! !!

Those are nice. After taking another look at the Standard Catalog, I now see "1937 Goudey Thum Movies". Not much info, except for the list of 13 players. No mention of any color variations.

At $120, you did well. The DiMaggio is worth more than that.

Ya I found the list of 13, but no other information. Of the 12 I bought I have 4 red and 8 blue. The dimaggio is red (so I can only hope they are rare). Still hoping to find more information and value... I would say the ones I have range from a graded 2 to 6. I would also be interested in buy card number 1 (Burns) if anyone has it for sale

This was the other goudey set around the same time that I mentioned in one of my earlier posts. This version has a different stle cover and was part of a part 1 and part 2 series.

From what I gather goudey produced these all within 2 years 1937 and 1938.
All sets ( my version red and blue) and the version you just showed me (with the players face on it - part 1 and 2) are part of a 13 player set.

Still very confused on why different colors were made, why only 13 players were chosen, and why both the 37 and 38 set are identical...minus the cover styles.....

Still looking for more details guys..

I have had these for quite some time and have a few others. I believe they were sold just like the regular goudey cards, in a pack with gum. I have the wrapper somewhere I can scan for you.

Wow! Those DiMaggio's are sharp.

Here is the wrapper for the Goudey thum movies. It is in amazing shape for being so old.

Those look to be in very nice shape for the issue and if you got the DiMaggio and the Foxx in the group you could not go wrong at that price. A scarce issue but as we all know rare dose not always equal valuable. There was a time in the 90's when the prices were significantly higher so if they fit in your collection hang on and see what happens.
