I believe this is the second highest price ever paid for a piece of sports memorabilia.

Where have these rules been since 1857 ? Who has owned them ?

Another item that IMHO belongs in the HOF.

They last sold in a 1999 Sotheby's manuscript sale for 12,650. Talk about something falling through the cracks!

It just seems to me that prices for almost everything high end have gone into the stratosphere. Pretty soon I'll have to start collecting Jose Canseco cards again.

Interesting document, but in my opinion way over priced. Most of these NY Game rules were codified in the 1840s. They continued to evolved into "the game we know today" through the 1890s, and in some aspects continue to evolve today. Good sell job by SCP, but in my opinion, not a smart buy.

Check out the threads from mouschi on the Modern boards. He is a Canseco supercollector and has spent probably $10,000 or more on Jose cards and the chance to meet Jose and get hundreds of his autos in person.

I believe they were also part of a multi-item lot. So the actual price paid for just these pages would be somewhat less.
