A few months ago I was at my local coin shop and the owner had just purchased 300+ T206's for basically nothing (couple hundred bucks I think). I went through the cards with him and let him know what he had because he didn't. Well over the last couple of months, he and I have been negotiating on a price and came to an agreement where he did very well and I got at a good price.

Included are:
316 T206's (251 are different......almost 1/2 the set)
18 HOF's (17 different)
55 SL's (35 different)
243 commons (199 different)
1 ghost back
1 card with the back showing on the front
6 misc cards

I checked and there were no rare backs that I could find.
There were two Titus'

The cards range from poor to Vg/Ex with 1/2 being in probably the Gd range. There is back damage on some of the cards. Looks some were in an album. Pretty stoked about getting this lot. Will probably sell most as only a few fit into my condition criteria but should be able to make some money and keep the cards I want.

Mark--What a find! Congratulations. I told my wife about your good fortune and she said, "Why can't you find cards like that?"

Great question.

Cheers,
Mike

That is a wonderful find! Win win all around for sure. And a great story. Making sure you get a good deal and he gets a good deal. Well done. These little cards are attracting more and more of my attention. Seeing why it is called the Monster! sheesh

Great find. What's the card between the E91 and the T210s?

Is it a T209?

I don't think so but I will double check. I know there is one with a huge top border and one or two with the name at the bottom cut off.

Wonderful find Mark, and great job helping out the shop owner. Very cool seeing all those raw cards spread out on the table. It would be interesting to learn more about where these came from. Did the coin shop owner know any more of the back story on these? Were they found in grandpa's attic? Were the sellers young or old?

It's not surprising that scores of people out there would not have the awareness or means to do some basic Internet research to get a basic idea of what hey had. I know, for example, my 86 year old mother wouldn't have a clue or know where to begin if she found a shoebox full of cards and would dump them at a local coin/gold shop (well, she would call me first, but you get the point). A bit more surprised that the coin shop owner had no clue.

Seeing the overall condition, and that it appears some were in an album, leads one to think someone at some point cared for them. A bit sad if someone who could have used the money may have left thousands on the table, or maybe the story is more seedy and they were stolen from grandma and dumped for a quick meth hit:p.....who knows, it would be fascinating to learn more.

Very low expectations from original seller considering the popularity of t206 and tobacco cards (thanks to mr. Wagner). A sound seller would be thinking they were holding pure gold. Very very strange.

right my few contacts with people who just came across vintage cards usually ends up with them having unrealistic expectations.....

Possibly, but most of the people I know have no clue or have even heard of T206, H. Wagner, or tobacco cards....but those same people would know who to ask and suspect some value. But don't underestimate how many people out there have no idea and no thought to go anywhere but to a gold or pawn shop.

I still think most people think their 30 year old cards are worth money...they think their newly acquired 100 year old cards are impossible to come by.....dont underestimate current non-hobby people that didnt know about the crash....if they dont know what PSA is, then they pretty much think their late 80s-90s rookie cards are worth something

The guy I picked them up from said they came from a couple that also had silver they were selling. I will see if I can get some more information. I know the guy who bought them had no idea what he had either. He was just hoping they were real. I literally went through card by card with him to show him.
