I'm lucky to live close to Jacksonville where we still have a "brick and mortar" old school card shop. Plus they host a monthly card show which I attend whenever possible. It's a small show maybe twenty tables with of course mostly new shiny stuff. But there are usually a handful of dealers that have the older cards that I like, and it's not always the same dealers there.
Before I share my purchases, I want to tell you how the week started, and how I had some extra cash in my pocket.
A couple of years ago I purchased four "portable greenhouses" on sale at Lowes and used them to protect some tangerine trees on my property. I paid $125 each for the greenhouses, and they worked fine. But it's too much work for me to set these things up, watch the weather for freezing temperatures, adjust the doors and windows etc etc. So anyway I had a little talk with my trees, and told them they were on their own from now on:) And now I have four big boxes taking up room in my garage doing me no good.
So I placed an add on Craigslist, and sold all four of them to a couple who drove a long way to get them for $70 each.
When I drive to the card show, my first stop is normally the ATM, but I've got some cash in my pocket!

One of my collecting goals this year was to finish some sets, and part of this plan was to not start any new sets. Well I blew that goal as it looks like I've started the '48 and '49 Leaf sets:)
I picked up 24 of the 98 cards in the '48 Leaf set (24% complete) ten of which I pictured here. Some of them are stained and of course all are "collector grade" but I paid $3-$5 each a little more for some of the star cards.
I don't know anything about this set but I see some error cards listed in the Standard Catalog not sure about those yet. No high numbers were included.

I also purchased 33 of the 49 cards in the 1949 Leaf set (67% complete). When I got home from the show I broke out the Standard Catalog, and here is how the description of this set starts:
"The 1949 Leaf issue is quite possibly the stupidest of what is considered the major football issues".
HaHa I'm not kidding right there on page 95!
Bent creased trimmed mostly paid $1.50 to $3 each

Final pick-ups include a cheap 1948 Bowman I needed for my set:) and a .50c 1952 Bowman small that is a duplicate. I also bought four 1960 Topps team emblem stickers which I didn't even know existed. One of these were included in each 1960 Topps football wax pack, and being a big fan of Topps baseball inserts, I'm glad to add these to my collection.

Wow, quite a haul, Larry. I need two of those metalic stickers you snagged! Been working on that insert set off and on for a while. Some of the inserts sets are pretty tough.

Very nice, Larry. I'd love to come across a bunch of cards from this era at those prices. I've picked up a few "collector grade" cards off Matt, but they were mostly baseball. Good luck on the sets, I wish I was able to help you out. The only 1948 Leaf I even have is the Bulldog Turner. I found it a few months ago at my local show. I think I paid ten for it. I was pretty excited!
