There are already threads started about folks goals for both pre-war and post-war baseball. Most of my goals for this year are football related, so I figured I'd start this.

Here are my basic football collecting goals for 2016:

- Pickup 5 more football HOF rookies
- Pickup 20 more items for my Buffalo Bills team sets PSA Set Registries (currently have 333/460 items)
- Upgrade 1 card in my All Time Buffalo Bills PSA Set Registry Set
- Pickup 2 unopened packs with Joe Ferguson (Bills QB) showing on top

What are everyone else's goals?

I have completed almost 50% of the 1956 Topps football set, so my goal is to continue to chip away. I hope to have 60-70% of the set by the end of 2016. I am also working on a baseball goal so I have to balance my efforts. Having multiple projects keeps me from getting bored.

Upgrade 3-4 more of my National Chicles to PSA 7
Upgrade 3-4 more of my Mayos to SGC 50
Upgrade 5-10 of my Topps AA to PSA 8
Have fun and find pre-war items I think are cool!

keep working on '57 and '72 sets. Long way to go with high numbers, and stars.

Too many unfinished sets in my closet. Concentrating on '58 Topps and 62 Post Cereal, but not for a few months.

I've got a HUGE project early in the year that will take up most of my time. My first book, "Darkhorse: The Jimmy Claxton Story" will be available on ebooks January 18 (MLK Day), and in perfect bound form February 29. The culmination of five years of research on his exemplary 40 year baseball career. The 100 year anniversary of his integration of the PCL comes up May 28, 2016.

Not technically football, but a decent section on his relationship with Hall of Famer, Marion Motley. Claxton coached Motley on the basketball court for the Reno Iron Men (1939-40), and both integrated the Verdi, Nevada baseball team in 1940. The two combined for 18 strikeouts versus the Nevada State Journal nine. They usually played for a segregated baseball team in the Reno area, named the Dixie Browns (1940-41). Lots more info available in the text.....

Have a great 2016 everyone, and Happy Collecting!

I'm a little more boring that most. I just want to keep plugging away at my 1955 All-American set (https://www.flickr.com/photos/24579302@N08/albums/72157656209478614).

Oh, this could get long. But here is the short version I guess:

Finish my '74 thru '79 Topps hockey and football sets
Finish my NRMT '71 Kellogg's baseball set, one card to go
Finish my Unitas run of SGC graded major issue cards 1957-1974, again, one card away
Begin '73 and prior football and hockey sets
Get an SGC 6 1956 Topps Clemente

I want to continue to chip away and complete my sets:

'60-'63 Fleer run need twenty cards
'48-'55 Bowman run need eighty six cards
'51-'81 Topps run need seventeen cards

I am not a very advanced collector and funds are limited. In 2016, I will continue to work on completing the 1967 Topps FB Set. I am a little more than half way there.

I'm starting a felt back set. Wish me luck. Also, I'm stating it now: 2016 will be the year I pull the trigger on a Kinnick and Davis auto. Last two I need for my Heisman autos that I started when I was 12. My Cobb collection might have something to say about it, but I'm not listening this year!

I need one card (Namath) to finish my 1970 Topps set. Hope to pick up a few more Fleer Team Action sets to finish off the run. My last football goal is to start on my first 1950s set. Decided on 1959 Topps.

Non football I will be starting the 1975 Topps baseball set and finishing off my 1977 to 1983 Topps Star Wars sets.

Good luck, Matt. The Felt Back set is fun but some of the brown and yellow ones are tough. Are you going to try to complete the base set of 100 or do the master set of 125?

Thanks Jeff,

I think I'm trying for the master. Picked up both Royal's. I'm not sure if local shows will help, but I bet I can knock off a few at the national. Pickings seem to be slim on eBay.

Now that 2017 has started, it's time to look back and see how well we met our goals for 2016. Here is my recap.

- I did pickup 5 more football HOF rookies
- Only got 15 more items for my Buffalo Bills PSA Registry team sets (currently 348/460)
- Did not upgrade any cards in my All Time Buffalo Bills PSA Registry
- Did not find any unopened packs with Joe Ferguson showing
- I did pick up 3 Joe Ferguson items from the Topps Vault though

Not a bad year

Finished my 1958 set. Not the 1962 Post set. Began the 1977 Topps Mexican set last December, which has occupied most of my time and resources since.

Published "Darkhorse" and sold 200 copies of the book in just five months. Halted printing, but the ebook is still available. A new book will be shared on the Football side of the net54 board in the next few months.
