Saw a thread started on the Pre-War side so I thought post-war needed a thread as well. What are your 2016 goals?

My goal is to stay focused on my 1952 Topps low-number set. I just completed the first series (1-80) so I want to try to get 81-190 this year.

Good luck to everyone and best wishes for a wonderful 2016.

I have only been back in the hunt for a few months now.

I have grabbed 58 1952 Bowmans and a dozen or so Ernie Banks cards.

In 2016, I want to continue to focus on 52 Bowmans and choose maybe one more set to go for......leaning towards 53 Bowman Colors.

Very cool start on the 52. My current goals are to finish Ex+ 54 tops set (40% there) and NM+ 75 tops (90%). And stop getting distracted by the oddball other stuff I tend to keep buying!

Finish my 55 Bowman set, only have around 15 cards to go. Complete a 54 Topps set I have about 15 cards so far but have both Ted Williams already.:D

Avoiding distractions will also be a challenge for me. Easy to let this happen. Love the 1975 set. Gotta be exciting to get that close.

I have been incredibly fortunate the last few years and have been able to achieve my goals every year. This year, it may be a little more difficult. Ideally, i would love to pick up the two Mickey Mantle matchbooks I'm still missing and at least one of the postcards. If I get those, and don't get too side tracked along the way, it will be a great year.

1. Finish my 1955 Bowman set. This should be easy to complete as I need three cards.
2. Pick up the three remaining 1971 Topps Greatest Moments Tigers (Kaline, Lolich, McClain)
3. See if I can pick up a couple 1953 Glendale Meats Detroit Tigers.

I bought some cards last week after not buying any all year.

But I did make progress with this buy, finished my 1974 and 1979 Topps sets, down to about 10 cards between the 1976-1977 sets, picked up a few 1973s bringing the total to 2 more cards for the 1973 set (Concepcion & Dwight Evans), and picked up a bunch of high number 71's bringing my total remaining cards to get at 24! Also filled in some 1972 stuff including Hank Aaron and Clemente. I already have complete sets of 1975, 1978 and 1980. I bought a set of Mid-grade 75s last year. Wasn't a big fan of 1975 but once I got them in the binder they've really grown on me.

My goal is to finish the 71s this year but I have some heavy hitters left (Banks/Mays/Clemente/D Baker primarily), and finish out the 12 cards for the 73, 76, & 77 sets, then I'll have every set complete from 1973 to 1980 leaving the 1970 and 1972 as the longer term project. 96.37% complete for 1970-1980.

Finish my 54 Topps by getting a PSA 6 Banks. (got it) Finish upgrading my 54 and 55 Topps. Buy 2 of either 55 Bowman, 54 Bowman, or 53 Topps. Continue to upgrade my 53 Bowman color. Buy 53 Bowman B&W.

Most of my collecting goals for 2016 are football related, so I'll start a thread over there. My modest goals for post-war baseball are as follows:

- Complete my 1958 Topps set (need only 9 cards, mostly commons)
- Pickup and/or upgrade 5 Baseball HOF Rookie cards
- Pickup 2 additional Mickey Mantle cards
- Attend either the Strongsville or Pittsburgh shows since I will not make it to the National

Let's see if I can keep focused this year.

In regards to cards I'd like to pick up a few high grade cards of Brooks. I have all of his regular issue cards, but not much of anything that is really in great condition w/nice centering.

1. Stow away a huge amount of cash to afford more high-end cards.
2. Buy more high-end cards & repeat #1 again.

1. To go to the 2016 National in AC
2. Pick up a 1951 Bowman Whitey Ford RC that's well centered, has no printer marks, and has nice registration
3. If things work out, pick up a 1951 Bowman Mantle that's well centered, has no printer marks, and has nice registration

Looking to add at least one of the following from my personal 10 most iconic cards.....
1953 Topps Satchel Paige
1951 Bowman Willie Mays
1968 Topps Nolan Ryan

And pick up a couple more Ted Williams PSA 5 or above for my run.

52 Campanella
52 Wilhelm
52 Mathews

49b Snider,
49b JRobinson
49b Paige

Looking for low grade and a price I can live with (that's the hard part).
Those are the cards I need to complete my 49 thru 79 topps/bowman regular issue hofer run.

No other post war goals, and trying not to start any new collecting projects in 2016!

Same goal as the last 3 years - 1952 Topps Pete Reiser grey back.

They have to be out there somewhere.

Pickup a few more of the vintage star singles I had back in the 80's (next on the list are the '58 Mantle / Aaron and a '58 Berra or Clemente) in mid grade or lower grade but still with eye-appeal. Buckle down and try to work on a mid grade '56 Topps set.

I am back into collecting after taking over a year off and really would like to stay focused on buying 1964 and 1965 Topps Baseball stars and semi stars with the long range goal of eventually completing the '65 set.

—Finish the 1956 Topps set. I'm up to 278 out of 342, with Mantle being the only big HOFer I need.

—Pick up nice examples of '50 Bowman Feller, '53 Bowman Hodges, '57 Topps F. Robinson and '66 Topps NL Batting Leaders.

I'm looking to
-finish my 1956 Toops Hall of Fame set. Well over halfway done with the only big card left being the Ted Williams. I'm looking for PSA 4-6 with centering and presentation being big for me. Been working on it for about 4 months or so now.
-get to 75% done with 1953 Bowman Color Hall of Fame set. Have 6 now with one being my favorite card I own: Yogi Berra PSA 5 that is very well centered. This is a tough set to find centered.
-Start working on a 1957 Topps Hall of Fame set. Have some of them already but haven't really started as I want to finish the 1956s first
-Buy a PSA 3-4 1953 Bowman Color Mickey Mantle

I see they are already starting a 2017 thread in pre-war, I thought it would be nice to see how we did over the past year.

My results are mixed, but I'm happy.
- 1958 set, no progress
- Picked up 6 new Baseball HOF Rookie cards
- Only picked up 1 additional Mickey Mantle card
- Did not make it to either of the shows, maybe this year

However, much of my hobby $ this year went into my son's collection. He is now 8 and really getting into collecting, mostly football, basketball, and Pokémon. I can see large portions of my collecting $ going towards collecting with him, and I couldn't be happier.

Nice Robbys!

I did not see this thread, as I really only started posting here about 6 or 7 months ago. Had I did, I would have stated that I wanted to do a big overhaul of my collection and focus towards post-war. Which I was able to do!

Congrats to everyone that was able to reach a hobby goal!

I made some progress on my goal (completed through # 134), then bogged down. I decided to start a 1973 set and am only about 40 cards short. I may slowly continue with the 1952 set, but I am not sure. I am kicking around the idea of building the 1972 set.

Same.

I joined back in January and immediately started purchasing cards at a feverish pace.
Purchased many (in my net54 link below) as well as many, 80+, 52 Topps cards.
Didn't really have any goals, just wanted some cards that I seen but I did curb my appetite and stuck mostly to 52's during the last half of the year.

I was real happy to pick up, Spahn, Feller, Ashburn and Irvin, and I guess my goal for next year, if the CDN dollar ever recovers, is to continue on my with my pursuit of more 52's like Snider, Rizzuto, Campanella, Berra, Martin and Hodges to name a few.

Started back into post-war late last year. I didn't have any real goals for 2016 but I'm glad I picked up a few pieces.

I don't play the re-sub game, but I gotta re-sub this Paige. I have no idea why it's a 3. Absolutely no creases or wrinkles anywhere.

That Mantle also looks like it could be resubmitted, but I assume, because you didn't mention it, that something glaring wrong is going on with the back of the card or something on the front I can't see?

I purchased this one already slabbed but still can't figure out the 3 myself?
I did find some very tiny spider wrinkles on the back but I have also seen way worse looking cards graded higher?

Hi Dale!

Yes, the back on the Mantle has paperloss. So the technical grade is accurate. But with a front like that, it's well worth the trade off for me. :)

I've scoured the Paige front/back and can't find anything to warrant a 3. There's always that chance I'm missing something.

Your Kuzava is outstanding. If that is a PSA 3, I'll buy those all day long!

I finished my 1971 set in 2016 and am just one card away from the 1970 set. I'm hoping a nice example pops up before the end of the year so I can check that one off too.

52T seems to be a common theme in this thread ... I made a little progress on my low number 1952 Topps set in 2016, too, adding about 15 cards--but still more than 100 away. I'm hoping to focus on that one in 2017 now that those 70s sets are done and would like to land a nice Pafko and Mays before the prices on those get way out of reach in the condition I'd like.

I've always had mostly raw cards in my collection and have never subbed to a TPG so that might also be something I'll look into in the coming year.

Oh, how I wish my Mantle had paper loss on the back and not the front!

My Kuzava, I purchased from a CDN seller, who was selling it for a great price, and with free shipping (IIRC?) so I bid on it and luckily won it.
I was hoping he had more, as, like what you mentioned, you'd buy those all day long, but unfortunately that was his only one. It is definitely one of my better P/U's. :)

Always fun looking back on these.

My progress on my 2016 goals:

Added the 52tCampanella 49b Snider and JRobinson.

Still need the 52t Wilhelm and Mathews and 49b Paige. I'm still kicking myself for negotiating too long on an ebay lot with 52 Wilhelm and 52 Mathews - the two cards I needed in one lot! It was a very good BIN price in hindsight and and I was trying to save probably $100 bucks.... someone else swooped in and paid what I should've! Oh well.... my mistake

Was not successful in "not starting new projects"
started: 51 b football and e90-1

Happy New Year everyone!
