Would appreciate any help determining if these are indeed football pants as the seller at my local antique market indicated, or hockey pants as I believe them to be.

Football pants would be longer.....to the knee...correct? 1910-1920's?

Thanks!

Chris,

I believe these are hockey pants. I've attached a scan from the 1904-1905 Spalding Fall and Winter catalog showing padded shorts as hockey pants especially for forwards. They sold the same shorts as padded basketball shorts as well, but your pair has reeds, which lead me to believe that they have to be hockey.

Hey there Chris and Chris,

The pants are definitely hockey. They can be dated by the reeds, and their diminutive size and style to about the mid 1920's. Here's a pair of NOS pants from circa 1910. Pre reeds, with just quilted padding comparable to the pair shown in the Spalding ad. I hope this helps.

Also - Is it possible Chris to post or DM me a pick of the photo and write-up for the Spalding Shamrock hockey stick in that catalog? There should be one...
Thanks!
