View Full Version : 1938 Foto Fun questions...
My father and I were going through his collection this weekend and came across a box of 1938 Foto Fun negatives. We have 68 different with several packages of the photo paper, maybe 12 total. There were also what looked like a few contact prints in the box shown below along with the list of included negs.
We're wondering if the values listed in the Standard Catalog include the negatives themselves, or are they just for the completed print inside the frame?

These are super fun and you don't see them too often, nice find!
I don't know for sure on the standard catalog, however as the framed negative is the complete item, I would assume the value is for the complete item with frame.
In my experience the negative sells for a third to a quarter of the same player with the frame included in good condition. It's really wanted by the collectors of these.
Just took a closer look at them and there are 13 unopened packs of photo printing paper but only one frame and it's pretty rough:

I love this kind of stuff. A card is a relative term and these are super scarce cards (kits). Interestingly, Burdick classifed them in his 1946 American Catalog as-
R329 Foto Fun (100) player photo in folder 2 3/4 x 3 3/4 .............. .02
And probably for good reason he took them out and they were never seen in future versions of the ACC again. I (guess) he didn't want them classified as "R" for Recent Candy and Gum ('33 and later) when he found out what they were. But we still use his first thoughts on them. Gotta love it. Here is a previously owned pack or two... with some advertising on an unopened one. I think value on an unopened one would be in the $300-$350 range.....that's only an educated guess though...Individual components vary in value and because they are so scarce, can fluctuate. But in my experience none are super valuable. Not as valuable as their rareness and "coolness" would indicate to me but then again I get enamored with this stuff!!

Thanks for the great insight, Leon :) . Any suggestions as to what I can store these in to help preserve the negatives? I'd like to get them all into something to prevent them from rubbing together and help keep them flat.
Unfortunately, these are very thin and getting them into nine pocket pages might be iffy if they would even fit those pages. Individual soft sleeves and top loaders might be the way to go. I do know there are pages made specifically for negatives but not sure they'd be available in this size.

I am not an expert on storing things but I would think we would want to keep them in something that is archival quality, seperate from each other and in a dark place, of course. If it were me I would investigate a bit more (as these aren't paper) but would eventually, probably put them in archival quality penney sleeves in toploaders, as I do most of my other cards.
