So, I was looking at cards today, and was thinking about the Black Sox. I always see cards of Weaver, Jackson, Cicotte, and Gandil, but what about the other guys? So please post your Oscar "Happy" Felsch, Fred McMullen, Charles "Swede" Risberg, and Claude "Lefty" Williams cards! Heck, even Joe Gedeon, why not? I have none.

It's a great thread and those are awesome Type 1s and e137s, but..........the other black sox don't have near as many cards of them as the regular black sox. I remember in the Trucker Boy find there were several of the other black sox but none were kept. One was even a Zee McMullen with coupon!! Not mine anymore but what a great card this "regular" is...(not from that find)

How expensive are those zeenut cards??

Guys, thanks for the great images!

Josh, I have no idea on price, but I would think these are some tough cards to find. My theory is that card scarcity often depends on the player. If you place your self in the situation, you are a 10 year old kid collecting cards back in the day, and these guys are :
1- Not the star players from the team and
2- All over the papers for being a disgrace to baseball

Would you save those cards? Or be disillusioned and throw them away?
I think many of them ended up chucked out, so few now survive. Just my theory anyway. Like the 1923 Lections cards, your a kid and at a fair or something (like the theory of distribution on these), and your parents go up to a candidates booth, the political candidate hands you a Shawkey card, and your brother Babe Ruth. Which card gets kept, and which one goes in the trash? So now there are few Shawkey cards, but it is still needed if you need to complete the run. It is easier (though still more expensive) to find the Ruth than the Shawkey.

Leon, you are right on, there are few card issues that contained these guys, exactly why I started the thread, to see the "less popular" guys, and what issues they are in. Seems mostly Zeenut, M101, and Collins McCarthy. I am surprised that no one has shown the W514s yet, I know most of these guys are on the strip cards. Thanks everyone for showing your stuff, there are a lot better images than I realized, especially the period photos. Those are a cool surprise.

Fred McMullen, top row, fourth from right.

For good measure, Ten Million is in the front row, third from left. Photo taken at Yesler Way Park in Seattle.

Dave - Really nice Zee Lefty!

Here is my Lefty from his early (1912) playing days in Tennessee. His fingers are the eyes to the window to his pitching soul. Perhaps one of a kind RPPC :

Here is an affordable card to add to your Black Sox collection, from the 1910 T218 "Champions" set Abe Attell
http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w185/larrytipton/Scan_22.jpeg (http://s176.photobucket.com/user/larrytipton/media/Scan_22.jpeg.html)http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w185/larrytipton/Scan%201_10.jpeg (http://s176.photobucket.com/user/larrytipton/media/Scan%201_10.jpeg.html)

Attell was accused of being the messenger between the gangster Rothstein and players of the Chicago White Sox baseball organization, during the planning stages of the fix of the 1919 World Series. Attell denied having been involved in any talks about fixing the series and convinced the jury that the wrong Abe Attell was accused. He also has cards in the 1948 Leaf "Boxing Greats" set, and Topps 1951 "Ringside" set. eBay has plenty of his cards in collector grades for under $20.
