Many thanks to all of the veterans that served in the US Armed Forces!

Johnny Vander Meer served in the Navy in WWII. Here are two photos of Vandy in the Navy:
The 1st is a group photo of his boot camp 1944 graduating class at Sampson Naval Base in NY.
The 2nd photo is of Vandy receiving his honorable discharge and Notice of Separation from the Navy in 1945.

Here is Bob signing my Cleveland Stadium Seat slat (its now part of the seat) Bob is kind of a hero of mine. He started pitching in the majors before his senior year in high school. He set the new strikeout out record of 17 batters in a game when he was 17 years old! Then upped it to 18 later on. When he was 23 years old he had over 100 wins and then came Pearl Harbor. The NEXT DAY Bob went down and joined the Navy. He was arguably the greatest pitcher in baseball and he gave no second thought to joining up. Most players waited until they were drafted a year or more later. Very few chose to join the service. You gotta respect a guy who does that.
