Was shocked and happy to see the Gehrig RC blow up to nearly 11k. And I didn't even jump in on it, LOL!

Equally impressive was that nice PSA 5 Mantle 52T at 57k.

And I loved the PSA 7 52B Mick-- someone else clearly did as well, as it went for 10.1k-- WOW.

Of course that PSA 7 #311 that's been noted was a real loud shot heard across the hobby. Did not see that coming either.

there were some record lows though on some 1952 topps..the Wynn psa 8 sold for cheap ...the waterside properties did well as it were (mantle rare 52s etc)..but the regular stuff not so well 1952 topps....

Yeah previous auction record for 52 mantie psa 7 was $100,000 a few months ago. There was a private sale for 52 mantle psa 7 for $165,000 a few months ago too. But heritage auctions sale of 52 mantle psa 7 for $227,000 smashed previous records.
The 52 mantle psa 5 for $57,000 smashed records too.

Did you see goodwin auctions 52 mantle psa 6 already over $80,000 with buyers premium?

Depresses me, a couple years ago a shop owner had a nicely centered 52T mantle psa 5 for 20K (probably would've taken less) and i thought that wasn't bad price at the time....fast forward to 2015 and now this :(

agree with patrick high end cards are getting to be like art work ,vintage cars.people are buying picassos damien hurst warhol, ferrari aston martin at auctions.then selling them months later at great profits.its good for the market and economy .id say there is more room with the cards.as they are cheaper investments compared to art and vintage cars.i see an upside.vintage toys ,comic books, vintage watches ive done well with lately ,sooo good for the cards octavio.

These sorts of prices are what drove me out of baseball collecting around 2006. When it becomes impossible for me to afford even a lower grade version of so many cards it is a real buzz kill.

it really depends..but if you are set collector for 1952s...maybe there are 30 out of 407 psa 8 cards that go for over 1000 dollars.....just the waterfront properties skyrocketed.

I was pretty happy with the result of the Gehrig RC for obvious reasons. Not so much with the Mantles as I was hoping to upgrade mine. It looks like most collectors will be priced out of even the mid grade examples soon, if they're not already.

I would be looking for some of the extremely rare Mantles now (and there are some which are not so far out of the mainstream)--focuses shift over time, and demand tends to come around to rare and significant. You want to be on or in front of the cutting edge, unless you're one of the big boys who toss hundreds of thousands around like it was nothing. Those buying the better '52 Topps Mantles for huge bucks now are on the trailing edge, but they aren't concerned with investment or appreciation--only with having the best available.

Just my two cents worth,

Larry
