Before I send it in to get graded, curious as to what people think that it might get?

Left to right centering 30/70
Top to Bottom appears 50/50

Can't see surface well enough, so gloss and any damage aside it looks like at least an 8 or a bit better if it's surfaces measure up, doesn't matter if it's a legit card. Hope it is....more importantly, it depends on the grading company you would use.
:cool:

I have no doubts that it is original, I purchased it around 1988-89 before basketball cards got hot. I purchased the entire set for $60, with each team still individually bagged. Back then didn't think about keeping the cards sealed... I also remember buying Karl Malone rookie cards for $0.10 and a Magic / Bird rookie for $4

the old hidden card trick.......post a question with no photo and then get mysterious answers based on a card that no one can see? Am I missing something here? :()

Peace, Mike

Can you see it now? I can see the card from my original post when on my PC and nicknock-2013 could see it. I don't know, I have the worst f**kin luck posting pictures

Here it is, thanks Mac for emailing me the pic: My opinion on the grade if it was deemed Authentic and there are no hairline creases, my hunch is that it would grade a 6 based on the lower left corner and particularly the centering. Just my 2 cents.... mike
PS This is based on my having sent over 500 cards to PSA/SGC/Beckett in the last 2 years. If it was centered, its most likely an 8 but the centering drops it at least 2 grades.

SGC lists "any STAR Company basketball" under the heading "Cards We Do Not Grade"

Beckett 7 or even 7.5 as the centering is only one of four subs.

I understand that but look at that centering, it is even a bit miscut as the top left border is closer than the lower left border and its pretty far O/C so if Beckett gave it a generous 6 or 6.5 on centering the total can't be higher than .5 of the lowest grade in all 4 areas. I think its a strong 6 with any company but someone said SGC does not grade these and I suspect PSA may not either.

PS Beckett does say that in rare cases a card can grade higher than .5 of lowest grade but the other sub grades have to be in the GEM MINT stratosphere to obtain those "gifts".

This is from their site:

The overall numerical grade is not a simple average of the four report card grades. Beckett Grading Services uses an algorithm which determines the final grade using the 4 sub grades on the front label of the card holder. The lowest overall grade is the first category to observe because it is the most obvious defect, and the lowest grade is the most heavily weighted in determining the overall grade.

Example :
Centering = 9.5
Corners = 9.5
Edges = 9
Surface = 8
Final grade = 8.5

Another example :
Centering = 9.5
Corners = 9.5
Edges = 8.5
Surface = 9
Final grade = 9

I admit their site says one thing and..... well you know. That is also a very rough 7.5 and the one you posted on the main board was an absolute joke as you noted and was clearly OVERGRADED badly.

I think the TPGs actually thrive on all the confusion out there. Sort of like reverse psychology!

Thanks, mike
