I recently acquired a antique Detroit Tigers metal hinged box. The box is made of heavy metal with a copper tint.

Approx what is the age?

I think it's from 40s to mid 50s. Hopefully a devout Tigers fan can chime in.

Are we positive it's Tigers-related?

Could just be a gothic-style initial "D" for recipient's last name. Desk Sets were very popular gifts back in the day, and were often/easily personalized.

If there is no other identification on the piece, it would be difficult to call this a Detroit Tiger item.

I saw that listed on Ebay for some time, I came to the belief that it is just a desk set with an initial for the owner.

Here is a link with all of the logos used by the Tigers and this one just does not really come close to any. The floating post on the outside and the short second inside post on the D, are not something that you see on any of these logos.

After extensive research of the font's the Detroit Tigers used it matches the one used in 1917.

The 1917 logo letter is all attached. If you look at the 1940s+ letter it's has a area where it's detached like your box

Am I missing something here? I don't see a photo of the box on this thread.

Not really questioning whether it's a Detroit Tigers item. The matching bookends from the set sold on Ebay about 7-8 years ago with strong ties to the Detroit organization. The owner of this desk set was a passionate long-time collector of early Detroit Tigers items. He was the only owner and his name did not have a "D" initial.

My post was to simply inquire about the age.

The logo does not match any logo ever used by Detroit, so would be hard to pinpoint age. I would highly question also if this is related to the Tigers.

He removed it, right before his last post.
