I was just curious if anyone knows the status of this card now that the fact that Joe Jackson is the player sliding in the center panel. What will it take to get the Standard Catalog to recognize this? Have they been made aware of the discovery? I'm sorry if this information has been posted already. Thank you guys for any light you can shed on this subject.

The jury is still out on whether it's Jackson or not depicted in this T202's centerfold.

A couple of factors that I see in favor of this being Jackson is the Stadium backdrop is indeed Cleveland.

And, the guy sliding into 3B has Shoeless Joe's ears.

I thought it was basically proven with a newspaper photo match from the period (the newspaper confirmed it was Shoeless Joe) in the previous thread on this card.

I do wonder though if anyone attempting to make this discovery official. I have heard that not many updates are made to the Standard Catalog these days, so perhaps contacting them would be a wasted effort.

Not true. You can still contact Tom B. at the Standard Catalog to get updates in. I did this a couple of months ago to add new variations for the W590 set.

I didn't see the part of the Jax thread where there was a newspaper match for the picture. Anyone have that link?

Gary I also remember hearing about the newspaper match, though I don't have the link. Also, didn't the Joe Jackson Museum confirm that this was Shoeless Joe, or am I wrong about that?

I went to the library in Cleveland to look at the film myself. I am in the camp that it's the same play, with the photo taken by the cameraman next to the guy who took the one on the card, but the microfilm is really grainy. The true Holy Grail in this chase would be an actual hard copy newpaper from that day in good condition. Somewhere, out there, could such a thing exist?

Thanks for the correction on the catalog info.

Here's the original thread, Gary. Somewhat long, but interesting...

Different player, different background, different uniform.
