A few items that arrived yesterday. The Oakes is my 36th different Nadja, Jennings is a nice duplicate, Bescher is unconfirmed for the Nadja set so figured a red crofts would be a decent substitute, and the Bemis, well, I won that before the Bescher, and the Young makes my 4th pick up for the back run (others I have being Nadja, crofts blue, cocoa)

Hi Richard. I never knew the card existed before a month ago. Was skimming through the Minor League Card section of Mr. Lemke's catalog, and the name Oscar Judd jumped out at me. Canadian Hall of Famer who never got a major league card. I asked around, and Mark had one for sale. Pretty neat find.

I picked up an old bookcase last year to use for my displaying my T207 collection. Someone had painted the inside pink then white most likely in the 1950s. They also painted over on the hinges as well.

I replaced the old "painted" shelves with plate glass. I was also extremely lucky to find brand new hinges that matched perfectly in an antique shop. Lastly I added a new art nouveau style door knob.

Couldn't get a great picture with all the glare but pretty happy with the results. The stain I used had a poly included that matched the T207 backgrounds and their gloss pretty well.

It's not often that I pick up something for $11.35 that I consider to be an important part of my collection. But this one definitely qualifies. I know it's not pre-war, but it's a team issue of the major leagues' first African American coach, shown as a coach. I always hoped it existed, but never knew until now.

It's a Cubs team issue, 8" x 10". I assume it's from 1962-65 when O'Neil coached for the Cubs.

A non-paper related pickup from earlier today. 12 complete here (with gromets) and 4 partials on this cut piece. I can't even imagine the others that might have been on the original pre-cut 'blanket'. For those that care more about the checklisted pieces, here is the breakdown.

Complete:
Archer - green(2), red(2), blue
Dooin - light green, blue, purple
Meyers - red, blue
*Chase - red
*Wagner (Heine) - blue
Partials:
Archer - (yes, TWO more) blue, red
Coombs - green
Chase - blue

* I don't see these on the checklist I have access to, but it is a couple years old. Have these 2 been cataloged?

A very, very hearty congrats re the Lily "pickup," Scott--wish I had had some of those, but have to settle for 4 cats whom I love, and they love me in turn. They are all rescue cats, and the youngest likes to lay on my chest and lick my neck and face, as well as plopping over to have his tummy rubbed whenever I appear. God makes really good cats.

On more of a card note, finally picked up a 1939 V351 Ted Williams in the recent PWCC auction, which is due to arrive next week.

Sorry, didn't mean to put card comment before you.

No card on this earth is better than a human being. Congratulations.

No worries - certainly not taken that way at all!

Appreciate the outpouring of great comments here, both in the thread and via a few PM's as well. Life just got more challenging but a lot more exciting at the same time!

Now, back to our regularly scheduled pickup thread!

And Pete - incredible to see your Joe Jackson - I never even saw that one before. It would've been worth trading the house for it if you had to!

Picked up another weird T209 that I cant find any info about the player actually ever being on the roster. Quite a few T209/T210 like that. I guess they were just in the right place at the right time trying out.

Patrick,

LOL. Thank you. Yeah, I thought that left a little to be desired on SGC's end. I have to admit I will leave the error alone because I do not deal with grading companies. Any cards you see graded in my posts someone else submitted.

Yes, the Graham is one of the rarities. Mitchell being #1 and Sweeney and Graham next in line. There are a number of rarities in the set and it has been debated as to the actual ranking. I believe the Shean card is up there with the Sweeney and Graham and maybe the Speaker.

Well, I'm on track to have 30 new cards by my 32nd birthday on the 30th of this month (23/30). After already picking up T206 Mike Mitchell Tolstoi, E100 Tennant, T204 Bancroft twins (Ramly and Blank Backs), and a Larry Doyle Successful Farming this month I received my first group of Zeenuts and Colgans' plus a nice Peckinpaugh from Rhett yesterday.

(These will not me my last Zeenuts. They are pretty awesome and will be proudly displayed with the rest of my collection.)

Here's card 24 for September. Number 25 is at the post office and 26 is on its way. 27-29 are being held awaiting payment. Just need to pick out card 30. I'm almost thinking about adding 2 more to make 32 since that's the age I'll be turning this year. This could be an annual thing if this year works out I will of course add one card for each year I gain in age.

Why the 2.5? Looks a lot nicer.

There are a few almost imperceptible wrinkles on the reverse, in the upper right sphere. There could be a bit of wrinking on the lower front but if there is it doesn't bother me. It looks like there might be a few errant, erased marks on back too. I noticed some and it didn't bother me.... I didn't buy the holder (not that you said I did, but I always like cards more than plastic).

This might sound like sour grapes but I actually like it a bit better than the 4 I had because this one has better centering (and that one had great centering).....Now, when I find this kind of card and it's a T205 Cobby......then I will be back to some of my favorite cards in Collection II.....I love the journey....

Thanks, it is certainly possible there are a few wrinkles going through to the front.....the aesthetics aren't very affected, to me.

ps...as an update there are a few faint paper wrinkles at the bottom right on the front. There are no other surface imperfections I can see under a 10x.....though there appears to be a tiny surface abrasion in the upper left, away from his head and not able to be seen very well or by the naked eye. All in all, better than expected.

To quote the Turtles, "So happy together". Thank you to Tim Carroll; you are the number one cartophilic artist in the world. If anyone ever has an opportunity to pick up one of Tim's works, don't think twice. They are amazing!

I've given up on the monster but I'm currently hoarding SLer's :) I just meant to buy the Ogle but I got a good deal on the rest of the 210's.

This may be 1903, but is more likely 1904. It was taken in Portland at Vaughn Street Park (aka at that time Recreation Park).
The photo shows a PCL game between Portland and Los Angeles. I believe Los Angeles is at bat.
See the link below for more material of this era, including major league.

This baby arrived today from a private collector with a good eye who is liquidating his collection. So pleased to finally find this well-centered!
Registration and color are just crazy in-person. I do love me a Gehrig!

With apologies to the one other guy who bid on these, with a last second snipe that wasn't high enough (contact me, maybe we can do some trading), these up the count of different Baseball Magazine supplements (both m113 & m114) in my collection to 875 :

I posted this earlier before it came in mail but, stupid me, I have to admit that I had no idea this was large "exhibit size," for some reason I thought more like the small Goudey 4-in-1s. So I am, of course, floored by how beautiful it is at this size, making it now one of my ten favorite all-time cards, and makes me want to get a few similar. Also this blue tint version seems to be very, very scarce--almost always found in "slate" or faint green....

In fact, I have read a number of posts on IDing these are 1936 and 1937, and colors associated with each, and it still seems to be an open questions--not sure if that has been nailed down at all...and no idea how it affects pricing of any of them...

The size of the holder and card relative to the flip was a clue. :D

Yeah, I should have known--but at least the mistake ended up in my favor--not like I expected a larger card and it ended up mini....

Well today is my 32nd birthday and I made my 30 card mark for September thanks to some really great board members. My collection had a lot of new additions, but my bank account is still crying :( Thanks to my wife and the ability to stretch my requirements for this month, I actually hit 32 cards. I doubt I will be doing this again, but is was fun. It will be much cheaper to just go to National.

I had a really fun September. Had to part with a few cards I enjoyed having, but it was worth it. I got most of these from board members (thanks Joe, Scott, Luke, and Andy). If you have any Sovereign 150s available, please let me know.
