Does PSA or SGC grade the older cards that have surface paper loss. If so, does anyone have examples of such? It would be appreciated.

Yes, they do. Sometimes, they even give a numerical grade to a card with major paper loss:

I highly suggest sending it to PSA over SGC if it has small paper loss. SGC is tough on paper loss. I've had some great cards with a speck of paper loss that came back at 1.5's I've had PSA grade those up to a 3 in the past. Now if its heavy paper loss probably not going to matter, they'll both give it a 1

Thanks for the information and scans. Does it matter more if the loss is on the front of the card?
I saw something that caught my eye, but the only problem was a blotch of paper loss on the upper front area of the card. The loss does not interfere with the subject, otherwise the card is fairly clean. I might take another look at.

Sorry for the bad picture. This card is a solid SGC 88 other than a area of paper loss in the right border on the card front the size of 2 pin heads beside each other.

I received the card on Saturday, and on Sunday took it to a show that SGC was setup for onsite grading. I gave it a try. I would have submitted to PSA, but they were not there.

I've never used SGC before, and must admit that their holders present well. Thanks to all for assisting me.

I prefer PSA for paper loss on the front.

I don't think the grading companies should take off as much for paper loss in a blank area....especially on a blank back. Maybe they should only take off half as much?
