I wanted to invite anyone looking for something to do over labor day weekend, September 5th and 6th, to the Ohio History Center in Columbus, Ohio for the 24th Annual Ohio Cup. This is a weekend full of vintage base ball played to the 1860 rules. There will be 31 teams from all over the midwest. Saturday there will be 34 games and Sunday there will be 32 games played. The Ohio Village and museum will be open, food trucks, a Civil War Sutler, Phoenix Bat company, and much more.

If you'd like more information please let me know or check out the OhioHistory.org website.

I manage a team in CT that plays usually by 1880's era rules but also mix in an 1860's game or two each summer.

My first hit in a vintage base ball game came against a former NY Yankee pitcher who had won a world series game.... He was 70 at the time but it was still a thrill getting a chance to bat (and succeed) against the legendary Jim Bouton.

Bulldog is now a member of my squad and even at 76 can still throw 200 knuckle balls in a game.

Anybody in CT this Saturday who wants to watch (or play) in a vintage base ball game, let me know. We play at Cove Park in Wethersfield at 11 AM. Bouton won't be there (he plays the 1880 game exclusively) but it will be a good afternoon of historic base ball with a good group of guys.

Attached are pictures of Bouton from that first game. And me taking a swing and lining a single over short.

Thanks for the heads up Steven!

Went to Columbus today and watched some of the vintage Base Ball festival.

Here is a photo of a Cincinnati Red Stockings player getting a hit.

Glad you were able to make it. There's another full day of base ball today for anyone else looking for something to do.
