Thanks Gary
those 1909 cubs uniforms are my favorite so I Couldnt pass these up :) Th ebacks just say spooner and wells. Only two of them were marked who the player was and in both cases i already knew anyways so not much help there. My favorite is the Needham/Moran one. :)

Wow, really like the Wee Willie Keeler in action bunting (at least I think that's Wee Willie). Very nice group, Bob!
Actually, all the photos in this thread are kick ass. Thanks for posting!

"Y" could be an exhibition game with Yale
yeah it might be a college team playing the Giants which might explain the lack of spectators :)

Fred merkle make up game 10/08/08 - from left: two umpires, Schulte, possibly Tom Needham, ...
...Chance and sheckard
...unsure, possibly Carl Lundgren
...Frank Chance batting and presumably Admiral Shei catching
...Cardinal sliding...
Tom Needham was not with the Cubs in 1908. The player near the left whose face is most visible (he is wearing half sleeves) looks like Jimmy Slagle.
Needham, however, appears to be the player with Frank Chance in the lower photo (not Jimmy Sheckard).
Carl Lundgren was released on April 23, 1909, before the Cubs had visited the Polo Grounds (where these photos were taken). I think the pitcher may be Irv Higginbotham.
The picture with Chance at the plate is of batting practice; the catcher is a Cub (and is wearing a Chicago uniform).
The "Cardinal" sliding is definitely a Brown (but I can't determine which one).
Thanks for sharing these!

Hi Ken
In the Merkle pic, Needham was playing with the Giants and can be better seen the alternate version that is in the Library ofcongress. All the non roster Giants are wearing black hats (Mcgraw,Needham, and what is presumably McGinnity) and the roster Giants are wearing white. The guy with the half shirt sleeves is I am 99% positive is Schulte
I agree regarding Higginbotham
You are right on the chance photo as I just noticed there are still people warming up on the sideline
I agree regarding St. Louis as well. That means the other player is a Highlander as all these photos originated in New York
Great work! :)
