I turn 32 this year so I was looking for a long term set to work on that has 32 cards. (Yes, that may seem strange that I would pick a set based on my age.) From all I've read I know this is a very difficult set and can be very expensive in comparison to my 1956 Topps set I've been working on.

How many have attempted the set? Any success stories out there? What's the success rate?

For those with extensive knowledge on the set lets hear some unknown details about it.

Ohh, and don't forget to show some cards or even sets if you got them!!

Back in the 1990's, I had 15 cards of this 32-card set. It was very tough to find the George C. Miller cards, so I sold them.

This Lefty O'Doul is my type card.

This is a tough set for sure and you may want to decide what condition you want to collect them in. They are very tough to find not cancelled. They seem to be more commonly found with a portion cut off which was used as a redemption. They are also found with a patterned hole punching also a sign of their use as a redemption. The cut/punched are easier (but not easy) to find and less expensive. Hope this helps.

As so often the case, SGC ones much cheaper than PSA....

One of the cards (forget guy's name, a pure common) is very tough to find in any condition, would be an issue for completion....

Ivy Andrews is the player short printed. Andrews is hard to find, even cancelled. Despite only 32 cards, the set will cost several thousands to complete - at least 3-4 times more expensive than completing 1956 Topps (and depending on grade potentially a lot more than that).

Cheers,
Patrick

I am 3/4 of the way done completing this set but it takes a long time, especially long if you are looking for uncancelled, uncut "shorties" and minimal creasing. It can be done, though....

I had the set at one time. It took several years to complete. Not cheap, even with a canceled Andrews.

I haven't really been trying to complete the set. Picked up the first few in maybe 79? Sometime after the book of lists had them as one of the 10 rarest cards (The list was interesting, but I know now it was way off)

I'm at 25% and all uncancelled but in pretty bad condition. At one point I held a stack of maybe 30 that were all in nice mid grade condition, but thought they were too expensive. Could have bought one, but just one.

The most recent was a few years ago and listed on Ebay simply as "old baseball card" so it got only one bid.:)
