It wasn't a "good throw" in any sense. They should have had her drop the ball into the catcher's glove so it wouldn't have looked so ridiculous. People would have cheered and we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Actually DB if you have ever played baseball then that throw was a fine throw in the sense that it was straight and right to the person it was intended to go to.

When a 3B bounces a throw to the 1B, it is sometimes considered fine if it gets to the target any which way.

As a former infielder, I would have taken that throw from my 2B instead of some of the tosses I got over my head or into the outfield on double plays.

I liked that throw. Babe Ruth would have been proud.

I think its terrific that they have all these people who are over 100 years old throw out the first pitch. You are never too old to enjoy life.

Apparently the obvious escapes some posters. First, she is 98. So cut her some slack. WTF were you expecting, a Nolan Ryan type fastball? And, Babe Ruth wasn't some mediocre hack, but rather one of the all time BB greats. You could look it up, but I think he is in the HOF. :rolleyes:

Considering only about 1.5% of the US population lives past 85 years, I think it's great that all these folks are still able to get out to the ballpark! Let alone throw out the first pitch.

Why anyone would do anything but cheer/applaud/smile is something I hope I never understand.

Red Sox fans who cheered for that throw may as well have been cheering the spawn of Satan. If you are a Yankees fan and you want to cheer for that throw, fine. I would encourage everybody else to join me in a robust chorus of boos.

A ceremonial first pitch has nothing to do with how good a person throws the ball. It's just an honor for someone who deserves the spotlight. Anybody who is related to Babe Ruth deserves the spotlight. Anybody who has anything to do with him deserves to toss that first pitch whether it's his daughter, dentist, lover or even his favorite bartender.

Thanks, ALR-bishop. They certainly are pretty ladies. Babe's daughter is a pretty lady, too. Unfortunately, her arm is sub par and boy oh boy am I ever suffering for it.
