Regarding the Topps Coins -- First Series, #s 1-120:

I remember as a kid getting the coins in the first series wax packs. My question to all of you with a better memory than I, were the first series coins available in the wax packs ONLY in the first series?

I remember the all-star coins being included with the fourth or fifth series, but I strictly was interested in the availability of that first series, #s 1-120.

A collecting chum of mine well remembers these from that year. My friend kept all the coins, while his pal kept all the cards.

Thanks in advance for all your childhood recollections which I trust you'll flood this thread.:D

But if you ever see a photo of a young Mr Nex it might cause you to wonder about trusting his recollections on the 71s :-)

Al, thank you for at least trying to chime in. I'm sorry to say that both links came up as Yahoo "FORBIDDEN" when I tried to access them. So, would you be willing to share what you remember from that spring of 1964?

Apparently all our other brothers and few sisters do not remember, haven't seen the thread as yet, or are possibly too lazy to take the trouble to divulge what they know. My sarcastic remark about a flood of responses has unfortunately been spot-on, at least up to this point.

Hi Brian, if I was alive in 1964, I would weigh in :) I do love hearing stories from the good days of baseball card collecting, so I hope some are able to contribute.

Chris-----Hiya buddy! It's been a very busy week around the house; we're heavily involved in a family wedding....

I just had a few minutes to respond, but wanted to get back with you even if it was via the chat room. Be well, my friend.:) ---Brian Powell

Brian-- I guess Yahoo does not want you you to know about those coins :o

Yesterday the link went straight through but today I see the Yahoo notice. However, when I clicked on "yes" I want to proceed the articles come up.... and nothing bad happened when I did. They are from SCD and discuss the 64 and 71 coins. If you do not want to enter The Forbidden Zone, type in internet search for "SCD Topps 1964 coins". The articles will be more informative than memory

Edited... Click on "here", and the second article is Sports Collectors Daily so second search should substitute that for SCD

By the way I have of all the Topps coin sets through 1994, including the 56 Pins. Not sure if there were others after 1994

Hi Brian,

The SCD article implies that the coins (1-120) were issued with more than one series of 1964 cards:
"The PX-17’S were issued with the first few series of 1964 Topps cards, exactly how many series is not known."

Unfortunately, apart from implying that they were issued with more than one series, it does not look like they have much in the way of details. Given the quantity that exists, it would not shock me if they were issued right up until Topps started including the All Star coins, but that is purely speculative.
