View Full Version : Insuring your collection...

My home insurance covers up to $5000 in sports collectibles and cards. I've now accumulated enough of a collection that I am over that buy an amount worthy of upping my coverage.
I was wondering what anyone else does for insuring their collection. Would an appraisal be needed? What if my collection is ever changing or I add a substantial item down the road?
Just looking for what others do and any insight on the matter.
Thanks in advance!

I just signed up with collectinsure.com for the same reasons. They did not require an appraisal but recommend keeping some kind of an inventory or record of the collection. I had my collection insured for a specific amount but I'm sure as you add to yours you can have that limit increased.

I ran across a phrase here a while back saying along the lines:
I am glad i didnt insure my cards for the price that i told my wife i paid for them.:)
(i think it was more about when you pass away, and she got stuck selling them- "i hope she doesnt sell them for what i told her that i paid for them")
Either way, its kinda humorous to me.
