The response went pretty well for the Cracker Jack e-book. I decided to do
one on my favorite ballplayer. Take a look:

When you're done post a card of your favorite baseball player.

Nicely done, Erik. Here's my guy.

<a href="http://s42.photobucket.com/user/birdman42/media/Milan/M101-6Milan-F_zpsb8dcdb86.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e317/birdman42/Milan/M101-6Milan-F_zpsb8dcdb86.jpg~original" border="0" alt="M101-6 Milan-F photo M101-6Milan-F_zpsb8dcdb86.jpg"/></a>

Deerfoot was fast, stealing 88 bases in 1912. Discovered on the same scouting trip as Walter Johnson, he was Johnson's roommate for many years. All-around good guy. Stuck with the Senators as a coach until 1953. He died in the locker room after hitting fungoes all day at spring training.

I'd have to go with Gehrig's partner in crime...

Mine is Lou. A tragic figure and all around great guy. Not to mention a heck of a ball player.

Lou for me too. Great job on putting that together. Gehrig fits the bill as a true American hero.

For the DEAD-BALL Era and all Time Mr. Cobb second to none. He is the greatest player of all time. For someone to not admire him at least and call them self a baseball fan is just not right.

Growing up "The Big Hurt" Frank Thomas and PK Paulie Paul Konerko

Now Jose Abreu, Avaisail Garcia (going to be the next Magglio).

Chris Sale I love his old school attitude you plunk a teammate of his you better watch your ass next inning he'll get revenge. It's hard not to like a player you've been watching their whole career to this point and see him on the cuff of being a Cy Young winner (if he ever had a good team).

Mark Buehrle .... of course I still check in on how he's doing IMO he can pitch another 8 years or so with his mechanics. 10 wins a season automatic. Could possibly/maybe dreaming a bit be a 300 winner.

Not sure about Delgado he wouldn't stand for the National Anthem then again IDK if I would either. Could never decide if I loved that or hated that.

Steroid era be damned....Pudge was my fave.....

-------------------------
Breckenridge, Colorado. February of 1999.

So my friends and I meet at the base to have a drink after a morning of skiing, and I noticed Pudge at the next table talking to someone. I asked for a picture and he said "not now, I'm talking to this guy". I left him alone.

5 minutes later he got up and looked at me. Said to me "you ready for that picture?" We jumped up and went outside.

After the picture he shook my hand and told us to have a good trip and walked off.

Super cool move on his part.....

My roommate, having a bladder the size of a walnut through his post college career, had to take a piss, and he followed Pudge into the bathroom.

My roommate came out a few minutes later and said...."Guys, you aren't gonna believe this but Pudge just took the loudest shit I've ever heard!"

True story. One I'll remember forever.

The Thrill...

I love it!!!! As a left handed first baseman named Clarke, who was 9-10 when the Thrill arrived in SF, he was it!

Can't say he's my fav anymore though.

Pre-War-- probably Ruth (Gehrig, Matty, WaJo, Cobb, all a close 2nd)

Post-War-- probably Clemente (Mays, Jackie, Snider, Mantle, Williams, all close 2nd)

I got this card when I was 4, along with a bunch of other terrific cards (Mays, Berra, Maz), and I remember thinking they were great. My mom must have told people that I liked baseball cards, because I also remember one of my aunts handing me a panel from the back of a cereal box to cut up. It was great. Also got to meet and talk to the Great Roberto when I was 10---still thrilled about it.

Carl Furillo.I grew up in the same area, and got to know him.The signed '58 is the first older card I ever had.At the time I was buying packs(late '70's) and trying to build sets.It was the start of my really reading about baseball history and collecting '50's and '60's cards.

When Terry Forster played with the Dodgers, he lived down the street from my friends. We used to go knock on his door and ask his wife if Terry could come out and play with us. He almost always did, he would come out and throw the ball around, or he would take us down to the beach and rent us Boogie Boards. Really a nice guy, and funny as could be. Three little kids walking around wearing plastic batting helmets on our heads hanging out with by far the worlds best pitcher in all of baseball ever (at least to us). So yeah, my favorite baseball player. If you are too young to remember, there was a thing with David Letterman where Letterman called him a "fat tub of goo," which is why my title on this.
