Bobblehead Question

I've been wanting to pick up a Mets and Yankees 1960s-ish bobblehead for my study. I've looked at eBay and just about every bobblehead says "vintage" in the title. My question, how do I really know it is a vintage bobblehead as opposed to something from the 80s or 90s? What should I be looking for?

If you want one in great shape you do have to pay for it. Go to inside the park collectables and see what they have in their auction. You can learn a lot there and maybe win the ones you want

Agree... Avoid eBay when it comes to Bobbleheads.

Too many sellers fail to disclose obvious flaws, too many are over-priced, and few can even package them correctly. Odds are that it will arrive damaged, or have undisclosed restoration.

Inside the Park is a great resource, to Murph's point... And they have a plentiful selection this time around. Lou and John are among the best when it comes to this segment of the hobby.

John Brey is the other top source in the hobby. You can google his frequent "All Doll Auctions" which always offer a great assortment, and Accurate descriptions.

Also... If you are going for a Mets Doll, be aware that you have some neat options. There's the classic "Boy Head" and the somewhat rarer Mr. Met version. Mr. Met is cooler (IMHO) and comes in the form of a Regular Nodder or a Bank (with coin slot in back and stopper at bottom). Tough to find the Bank version in decent condition, as kids would shake it to get the money out. Not a great idea, with something as fragile as these :o

Lastly, there are matching Mr. Met / Lady Met Dolls. These are the rarest of all, and are actually not Bobbleheads. They look like Nodders at first glance, and are the same size. But they are not as fragile (and have heads that turn, rather than bounce). Probably more than you wanted to know, but hope it helps!

I agree with Mark and Jim.......but if you just acquaint yourself with vintage dolls through ITPC or Nodder Exchange, the differences between vintage and modern is pretty easy to discern. And there are a few honest sellers on eBay....me, for one. :D
