Reached the halfway point in my mini-project. Collecting all 14 known Pirates with EPDG backs. Got these two just now in the mail from two different people. I know the Camnitz was only recently confirmed, so I figured I better buy that one despite the writing.

Mainly bought this because it relates to local baseball history. (Cad Coles played for the Kansas City Packers in 1914.)

Awesome, John - very tough card!

That "over head" Camnitz wasn't confirmed when I stopped working on the Pirates back in 2012, as far as I know. At that time, I believed there were 15 confirmed, with only Willis, Abstein, and that Camnitz being no-shows. I did not have an image of a couple, and Clarke (fielding) was a bit of a mystery, but I thought it had been confirmed by someone (I do not have the records).

This one would bump it to at least 15 known, 16 if Clarke (fldg) is actually confirmed.

Either way, there are some tough ones in the list, but you've knocked off a big one - congrats!

Picked Up this full Pirates Pack with a Card at a Local Show. The Card is not Baseball related.

I am going by T206Resource. Their checklist has 14 confirmed and it was 13 when I first put the list together, then someone found the Camnitz, so I added it. I actually decided to try for them all a year or so before I started, so that's why I only have seven now.

I got a couple nice ones in a trade(see pic below) and then decided to go for the rest. I do check their list from time to time for updates just in case. Message me if you find the checklist that says more than 14 are available so we don't clutter the May pickup thread. Thanks.

BTW, I have Gibson, Miller, Clarke/port, Maddox, Wilson, Camnitz arms folded and above head. Phillippe seems very easy, so I've passed on a few nicer ones, looking for VG range

I always enjoy seeing people's pickups each month, especially when they are related to a "Special Project " that someone is working on. These show us all the fun in collecting and how you can collect in anyway that means something to YOU;not the industry itself or that there is a standard way to have a collection. Thanks for sharing guys!

Acquired late last month:

1) The first is a c1916 RPPC of HOFer Judy Johnson, when he was ~16 years young. Don't know if I'd call it his "rookie" or his "prookie" or what? I'm just calling it "one of my new favorites!"

2) I suppose the 2nd one speaks for itself. :)

After many years and constant upgrades this one finally completes my 1922 Zeenut set at 162 cards, not sure why this card is so tough (possibly because Wildfire Schulte was also in the set with Seattle which is also a tough card) but it sure was a tough one for me to come by. I still collect the 1922 sepia variations (I have almost 60 of those in addition to the 162 cards in the set)...

http://starsofthediamond.com/may2015pickup1.jpg

I also was able to pick up 3 more of the 1923 sepia players. For those not familiar with the set... It is likley that the 1923 Zeenuts were not going to be ready for production in time so they made 24 cards where they simply redated the 1922 cards and distributed them with new dates on front. The later "regular" 1923 cards are all black and white with no sepia highlights and all the poses of the players were changed to their new 1923 poses. This is a notoriously very tough set to complete among Zeenut guys, with these 3 it brings me up to 16 of 24...

One of my first vintage cards was a 1923 Zeenut of Chadbourne, bought through the mail in 1979. It's just a regular black and white, not one of those sepia ones.

Despite my best efforts, my only winning last night at Goldin and Memory Lane. M116s are sadly under-valued but this is highest graded at either SGC and PSA, is a 300 subjects and short print. Got at a seemingly great price--but like I said, who knows with M116s these days...Cool (odd) face, too.

An unusual addition to my collection; wasn’t sure if I should post here or on memorabilia side. It is an antique chest that based on patents and contents within likely dates from somewhere between 1873 and 1888. I purchased it from a dealer who specializes in antique trunks and he indicated he purchased it from Detroit.

What makes it interesting is how it was decorated with some 1888 Detroit Wolverine Scrapps (or more correctly, H. D. Smith & Co Baseball Gum Die-Cuts). The seller restored the chest but left all the original décor within untouched.

http://www.net54baseball.com/picture.php?albumid=459&pictureid=18406

The Scrapps include Bennett, Brouthers, Getzien, Dunlap/Hanlon, Richardson, and Thompson. It appears that the original/early owner initially included Dunlap in the collection but opted to place Hanlon’s head and name over him. Reasons for the update may be linked to Dunlap’s move to Pittsburgh for the 1888 season while all the others remained with Detroit. The Scrapps are not in particularly great shape but that doesn't matter to me and will remain as they are as long as the trunk is in my care.

...borderless var.--only one I've seen in nine years so despite the top and bottom pinholes , it's a keeper . I've scanned it alongside a Type 2 . These are 1935 ( ? ) or 1936 Goudey Gum Premiums. Ole Doc Cramer doesn't even appear in the regular 120-card set = the Type 1's have that little ''Litho. In USA" down in the lower right corner .

Thanks Luke, I'm going slow and I've been learning what to look for to try and find cards that look nice for the grade. It's a pretty steep learning curve but spending time on here looking and evaluating cards really helps when it comes time to make a purchase. Not sure why but I really enjoy those cards with the name at the top and bottom (I've got 3 now!).

Only 2 FULL game tickets have ever been slabbed by PSA and this is the only one ever to receive a numerical grade. It is a 2 based on some very light hairline creases that you need to really squint to see. Very much undergraded in my opinion but since its the only one ever with a numerical grade, I'll be ok!

Peace, Mike

PS This ticket was another "raw" Vermont "find" that was recently slabbed among some incredible finds recently.

Pardon the obvious "Non-Sports" nature of the cards (and the overt Racism). With all that out of the way, I thought the baseball card enthusiast would appreciate this Uncataloged & rare E-card series as it is obviously closely related to the E125 American Caramel series of Baseball Players. The series was apparently looking to capitalize on the popularity of Teddy Roosevelt and his African hunting expeditions...

I got this one back from the grader a long time ago and somehow never got around to posting it in the '' Pick-Ups''....there are several fans of this set so I'm posting it for them , to know to add to their list of cards to watch for , since this one is not in all the checklists . The Burke 4 x 6 photo is in the scan because I just bought it because I thought it was the one used to make the card ( nerds often collect stuff like that...hey , I'm not alone here ). Wrong uniform and location though. Neat pose ; I've always thought of those Burkes as little works of photo-art.

CJ 15s in high-grades now very hot--for some reason, and if PSA. Perhaps the 14s got too expensive to collect so some people now switching to 15s. Or they got sick from inhaling caramel flames. Or the PSA 7s and 8s are amazingly vivid (there are very few 9s).

Nice to have this pair back in the fold. Traded them about half a dozen years ago, and they found their way back to me via eBay. Welcome home, fellas!

Nice Plank, DJ!

Thanks Luke, been looking for one with decent eye appeal and semi affordable for quite awhile.

Ladies and Gentlemen I give you the very elusive Ray Keating in immaculate condition. Got lucky with timing checking eBay this morning getting out of bed.

Luke...great looking marquard! It can be tough to build a slow moving set sometimes, but when it's all said and done, you'll be very happy you stayed on course. Keep chugging along [emoji41]

You're killing me. Kill. Ing. Me.

Was underbidder on both.

Unsuccessful sniping 101.

Here are three of the five raw Old Judges I bought this month -- the other two are still on their way in the mail. Of the five, Zimmer is the only one I paid more than $100 for.

Nice card. Think it should be a 1 but I guess it has too much of the borders missing. Unaltered and clean back.

Very happy with the mail man today, not so happy with my scanner. I couldn't wait to use the scanner at work on Monday, though. My first Carolina Brights, my first Piedmont factory 42, one of the cleanest Polar Bear I have seen, and a Obak I been wanting for a very long time.
