I am looking at a vintage autograph collection and included in such is this Gehrig cut (under a matted/glass frame). In no way am I an expert on these things and am just curious what the board's thoughts are simply based on what you can see in this scan? Thanks for your opinions

I would say no.
Among other concerns I have never seen the " G " with that form before.

make mental note: 95% of all cuts are forgeries PERIOD. When confronted with 4th and long, it's a good idea to punt.

To the OP:
You are looking at a vintage autograph collection and have to ask about that terrible Gehrig?
And you say you are no expert.
There are red flags everywhere here for you.
This collection is being offered to you a self declared non expert. Why?
There are hundreds of dealers and experts who are easy to find. They are the ones who should be offered a real vintage collection of autographs.
I could be wrong, but it seems to me like they saw you coming.
This smells fishy to me.

I agree. At first glance, a novice would say it appears to look like an authentic Gehrig signature. Any close inspection shows that the "G" is terribly misformed and the closer you look the worse the signature is. It is also falsely aged on newer paper.

They were the favorite medium of two notorious early forgers Ron Dross and Dave Zimmerman.
Two fat guys who ripped off many, one at shows and one at auction.

Agree with the above, its definitely no good.

Richard, I remember Dross setting up at NY shows with alot of garbage.
I heard he passed away some years ago.

Yes, he definitely has passed away, as has Dave Zimmerman.
Once in a while I tend to think there is a god :).

Seems like these Gehrigs are ones that pop up on Coach's Corner with that style of the G
