Seller "buc_kris" has a bunch of T206 reprints up on eBay, with no indication that they're reprints and with the "Reprint" line on the back crudely whited out:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PIEDMONT-TOBACCO-BASEBALL-CARD-BERNHARD-NASHVILLE-/111613501643

He started them out at $0.99 each, and thankfully people don't seem to be biting. A few have been bid up to $1.25 or $2.25.

Under condition is he selling a card or a Video Games/DVD/VHS. not real for sure

Acceptable: An item with obvious and significant wear but is still operational. May have tears or holes in VHS/DVD box. The video game instructions and box may not be included. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections. See all condition definitions- opens in a new window or tab

David- This was a great catch. It's bad enough that's he's selling a fake to begin with, but to white out the bottom back of the card is misleading the bidding public, & could be a criminal offense.

Not only that the Bernhard is a PD 150 and he's a southern leaguer and they were only printed in the 350 series.

At least they are in "acceptable" condition!!

Removing the reprint text counts as forgery.

You guys have it all wrong! I messaged him, and it turns out that those are STAINS! The cards are "Not a reprint."

Why can't you guys believe that 15 cards each have a stain in the exact spot the word "reprint" would be???

Thanks for that info Ken. I was worried about my 15 bids until you reassured me!

Did he also explain why none of the cards have a factory, district and state on them?

More stains perhaps?

He said, " under the mark or stain it says subjects large assortments , cigarette of quality" He owns a reprint, and these are NOT reprints. I believe he's going to bull his way through with these.

Good catch, this is one of the many reasons I don't deal with raw cards.

How awesome is that? Everyone one of these "not reprints" has exactly 50/50 centering. That's almost unbelievable. :)

So here we see reasons not to buy raw cards, while on other threads in this forum I see reasons not to trust third party graders which leads me to conclude that I shouldn't buy graded cards either. My options seem to be to either become an expert myself or stay away from anything valuable/rare enough to be worth the effort of forging/repairing/etc. Is that about right? Because even for me putting together 1988 Topps sets over and over is going to get boring pretty quick..... :-)

I wrote this seller and told him both of his T206 cards were reprints, explaining what was wrong with them. I usually do it if I see the seller has good feedback, because that makes me think it isn't someone trying to pull one over, they just don't know what they have. Well he didn't answer my Ebay message and now this one has a bid, so the guy is apparently a jerk. Feel free to report him or write him

That Perdue card looks like somebody soaked it in tea or something to try to make it look old. Another obvious reprint, at least to people who have seen a few real T206s, but I guess there are enough suckers out there to make it worthwhile for these scammers.

I think someone just lost 20 bucks.

Funny how all of the other cards he has were scans, not some blurry cellphone pic.
