Okay, I'm a day early here. Hopefully no one will begrudge me starting this thread anyway...

Rapid Robert always said that in spite of the public perception that his Opening Day no-hitter in Chicago in 1940 was his finest moment, he didn't carry the same sentiment. Instead, his tour-de-force was actually his 2nd no-hitter in 1946 vs. the NY Yankees. He told me that the strength of the Yankees batting lineup led by Joe DiMaggio made this one significant and special. The Indians prevailed 1-0 over the Bronx Bombers.

The Harridge AL game used ball is signed in vintage fountain pen by Feller and his batterymate, catcher Frank Hayes. The score and date are noted on another panel and the ball is inscribed to some lucky fan named Billy Shapiro.

A cool pickup for my no-hitter collection. :)

Awesome ball Scott! I would love to see your museum. In keeping with a Bob Feller theme. I picked these advertising pieces up in the last Legendary auction. I said I wouldn't bid in that auction but my judgment was impaired by the beating I took in the Hunt auction. Nonetheless I couldn't resist as I love Feller and oversized advertising display items. The fact that Rapid Robert hadn't managed to autograph it surprised me as well:rolleyes:

Nice ball Scott. I was almost gonna bid on that. But I started after the May 30th , 1935 Phillies vs Braves ball. That day was Babe Ruth's last game ever. He played in the first game of a double header and this ball was from the second game. I put in a decent bid but I was not 100% sure on the ball. MEARS listed it as 5/30/1935 but there was no date on the ball. There was a score (9-3) which was correct. There was also the starting lineups which weren't exactly correct and the batteries which were half right so I was having trouble going higher on it.

While not vintage, I won my first item from Hunts this past week. It was the Pride of the Pirates award given to former player and announcer Steve Blass in 2002. Thought it was interesting and different and feel like I got it pretty cheap.
Lot included an empty wine bottle from the occasion, and 2 pictures of Steve receiving the award.

The company l work for is located in an old beer distribution building. While cleaning above a cooler l found several neat items. There were several working beer signs (Pfieffer and Berghoff) as well as this Falsaff sign advertising the CBS game of the week featuring Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese. It measure 2.5 feet by 2 feet and l have narrowed the date to 1960 to 1965. It is not in great shape but it cost me nothing. Not sure how to display it other to hang it in my shed.

It's supposed to be there. It should rotate freely, deflecting the ball out of or back into play in pinball fashion.
An alternate (presumably slightly later) version of the game, titled The Pitcher's Battle, replaced the solid block with a wooden cross.

We answered Dynarl in a hurry, and included one large error in doing so, so we're adding to and amending our previous post:

We wish we could tell you more about both The Professional Player and The Pitcher's Battle, but there's a fair amount of mystery
surrounding both games and unfortunately we don't own a example of either of them.

The Pitcher's Battle is a fairly tough acquisition itself, but The Professional Player probably qualifies as "rare"
-- we haven't seen an example offered for sale or at auction in almost ten years.

The mystery is how two virtually identical games are credited to two different names, and which one came first.
Guetschoff filed an application for a design patent (different than what most people think of, which is a "utility patent")
in late 1934 and was granted the patent 30 July 1935 (the design is pretty much exactly what you have with The Professional Player).
However, the back of the Guetschoff game is stamped only "pat. appld. for," while it's Kollmorgen's The Pitcher's Battle
that sports the 30 July 1935 patent date on its playing board. Thanks for the view of the game's backside, by the way,
which gives us info we didn't have previously.

Kollmorgen's nephew (so he claimed, and we believe he was being honest) showed up on our Baseball Games forum
several years ago offering just a few insights on the game -- supposedly thousands were sold at the J L Hudson department store
in Detroit, and Kollmorgen allegedly had other major league players besides Bridges lined up to endorse the game in the late 1930s,
but some delays and the outbreak of WWII killed further production. Kollmorgen was still alive when his nephew posted at our forum,
but was in no mental state to answer questions we wished relayed to him, and he died shortly thereafter.

We have a photo of the directions for The Pitcher's Battle, which are presumably identical for The Professional Player.
The game uses one large marble (presumably a "shooter") and nine standard marbles. We must correct ourselves
regarding the purpose of the square block on the Guetschoff game and the wooden cross on the Kollmorgen game --
both rotate, not to put the ball in or out of play, but merely to indicate where the baserunners are.

Picked up this Game Used Warren Giles NL Baseball from April 21, 1966 Braves at Phillies. Braves won 5-4 and Phil Niekro won it in relief. It was his 1st win of 1966 and 3rd Career win. Inscribed and signed by Phil with details. Signature was added at a later date then the inscription.

I'm now the proud owner of a new Kreindler piece...

The really clear image is Graig's photo of it (check out his website for high quality image, looks much better there even), I can't get a great one with my camera phone. Photos do not do this thing justice!
I also just got the smaller Ruth study that I've had for a while back from the framers and put her up by the big guy! They look awesome together. I also moved my Ruth store model bat from the other side of the room to rest above the Kreindler pieces. I don't ever want to leave my room now!

Also got the first ever Kreindler signed baseball! Sweet!

Here's a close up of smaller study piece. Even at only 5"x7", it's an amazing piece on its own... I just love early Ruth images, both of these date to 1920.

I may eventually get the big piece framed but not sure, I love it the way it is now too.

I also struggled for a while on whether or not to frame my painting. I liked the raw look, but I really do think that a nice frame can really enhance the look even more. I think this is especially true for the smaller paintings, meaning 16x20 and smaller plus ones slightly bigger, which yours looks to be. I think Scott's Vandy is the perfect example of how the right frame can really enhance it.(Although, I am biased towards mine as well)

Here's a few early JF Hillerich & Son's that I've picked up recently, plus the Sears Roebuck. The decal bat is an Eddie Collins, which is only identifiable by his signature on the decal. The bats are all heavy duty 'clubs' with thick handles, which I really love. I'm assuming the 'J.J.' is for Joe Jackson? The end of the barrel is squared off which looks original, but maybe not? Thanks for looking.

I picked up this felt patch with along with a group of other 1920's-30's items relating to the St Louis Cardinals. It measures 8"x6" with very intricate stitching. Of course it commemorates the Cardinals appearances in the WS in those years. There are no manufacture's tags so it could be homemade. Anyone ever come across something similar?

Many thanks to Brock for allowing me to add this beautiful scorebook to Monte Pearson's historic 1st no-hitter ever pitched at Yankee Stadium. Pearson no-hit the visiting Indians 13-0 in the 2nd game of a doubleheader on only 2 days rest. The scorebook came with several NY vintage newspaper clippings from the following day recapping the doubleheader sweep of the Tribe.

Ironically, this scorebook and clippings originally came with a ticket from this game as well and was offered in the SCD in the mid 1990's, but another collector beat me to the punch. I was able to subsequently work out a trade with the collector and have owned the ticket to this game since the 1990's. By picking up the scorebook and clippings, I have kept the original lucky patron's memories of the game intact, after an amazing 20 year separation. Pretty cool! :)

FINALLY made a pickup!! The pot metal bottle opener on the left is new. I have had the SF Giants version for awhile, but had never seen the NY version. Both were sold by Abercrombie and Fitch. I believe they were made by Loyal Products but A&F must had a batch made just for them. If you've ever handled one of these, you know they're HEAVY! The SF version is most likely 1958, in that the hat emblem is actually that of the Seals. You will see a lot of stuff from the Giants' inaugural west coast season with the Seals logo...it was all most likely produced before the SF team finalized their logo.

I have an office in a government building which isn't the best place to display baseball memorabilia. So I found this from Sterling Enterprises which make decorative items. The Batter is 16 inches tall, Pitcher 14" and the catcher is 11".Made from a wood composite

Picked this up from a fellow board member(Thanks Kevin!!!). It's a Goose Gossage "Bring on the Goose" whistle given out by the Padres in 1984. Still works and makes a goose call.
