This recently came up on eBay and the jersey is attributed to my uncle Pete Castiglione. I have my doubts that it is actually a Pittsburgh Pirates jersey circa 1950, but I know very little about this. The lettering doesn't look right to me (especially the "P" and the button through the "A"), and the back numbers appear to far apart to be a MLB uniform. Any thoughts? Appreciate the help.

The first thing I noticed is that the lettering has yellow fabric in the middle of the P, R, A. I think the jersey should show through in these places (leaving white visible on this home shirt, or gray on the road shirt which is pictured.

See attached pics for comparison.

The Rawlings's manufacturers tag is of style typically seen in their products from c1961-1963. In addition, you will notice this jersey only features a five (5) button front. For this time frame, this is indicative of a less than major league quality garment. Also, it was pointed out the cut and applique of the athletic felt lettering is not consistent with what contemporary images portray.

Thanks for your insights. That is what I was thinking as well. A little bummed because I would have loved to pick up something of my uncles. I have his cleats and a bat, but that's it from his playing days.
