Simple question (probably not): Anyone know how to decipher Kren's model numbers? For instance, what might a 327A designate? Also, any tips to date the bats? I know they were popular in the '20s and '30s, but am curious if there is a way to spot one era over another. (Which probably brings us back to model numbers.) Thanks, I have seen the old Dave Grob article, but there doesn't seem to be much more info on Kren bat easily accessed by searching. - Jeff

Figuring out Kren model numbers can be a challenge as they would change over the years. Not having my catalogs in front of me, I believe model 88BB was a Bill Barrett model and then was a softball bat model. As for your question on a 327A model, it's actually 327R Ruth model. This was a popular model and could be ordered from the catalog. Some people think these are gamers but are most likely store models. I do have a Curtis Walker 327R model with side writting so it was used by professional players.

As for dating Kren's, the diamond logo didn't come along until the mid 1920's. Early Kren's have the model number stamped on the knob and the logo is in block letters. In the late teens, they moved the model numbers to the barrel. Bats from the late 30's 40's had a yellow finish. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.
