I have two signed non baseballs in my collection. Each one was signed by one of my daughters and given to me for Father's Day a few years ago. I plan on adding a third when my 2 year old can start to write.:)

I never really understood the appeal of having someone not related to baseball in any way sign a baseball. That's just me. Why anyone would want Betty White or some world renowned heart surgeon to sign a baseball is beyond me. Not knocking them as there is a demand and a market for them, it's just not for me.

That said, I did see one that I bid on at auction that I would have loved to have kept. It was signed by Tug McGraw and Tim McGraw as well as Faith Hill. I love the family aspect with the deceased father on the ball with his son and daughter in law. Plus Faith Hill is just so fine. So....yeah. I didn't get it as I think it went for over $100 and I couldn't do that. But that is one I would have kept.

I think it's cool to have American icons sign a baseball. Baseball is quintessentially American. So I do understand the appeal of having people like John Glenn or Presidents sign baseballs.

People have different mediums they like signed...cards, 8x10s, basketball floorboards, etc. To me, a baseball is one of the best looking items to have signed and they display very well. I can't see having random people sign a football or basketball...but as mentioned above...baseball is americana...but thats just me.

Normally I don't even look at non-baseball-player signed baseballs. But Meredith was my favorite Cowboy and this ball was there...and it was cheap. What the heck?

Now I need a Tom Landry baseball to go with it.

Many years ago, I passed up the opportunity to buy a baseball signed by Humphrey Bogart. I have never seen another and regretted not buying it ever since. I always remember his quote "A hot dog at the ballpark is better than a steak at the Ritz".

I also like the way you can put a baseball in a cube and stack them. I read article a while back where Joe Dimaggio was at some sort of dinner function or another where he got Pope John Paul to sign a baseball for him. When the Pope questioned him about it he also said something to the fact that signed baseballs are part of americana. Guessing a ball like that would be a big ticket item at an aution. Me and my son were at a baseball little leuge tournament that Ali must have been sponsoring a team all I could find was a baseball to have signed. had to sell for extra $$ when I got divorsed:(:(

I have many non-baseball player signed baseballs, here are a couple faves:

Paul Tibbets, pilot of Enola Gay (plus might as well show a Walter Cronkite, why not??)
Ronald Reagan
