Maybe. Probably. But the swastika itself is seen way before the Nazi's adopted it. I remember seeing it on some temples in India.

Ironically...I believe it was a symbol of good luck before Hitler adopted it.

I saw this card and thought it was cool. This is what kids did to cards back in the day...I used to deface the players I hated!

Have been there more than once and agree it can be found on temples there.

The swastika was prevalent in many Native American tribal cultures as well.

With the timing of 1938 in mind, I think it is safe to say this was motivated by the Nazi's, even if the tilt is off.

It is actually on the early 1900's Cy Young Tobacco Tin.

My mother-in-law owned a set of works by Rudyard Kipling. Each of them had stamped on the spine a large swastika. I wondered what that was all about, and checked on it. Apparently Kipling, who was born in India, recognized the symbol as a token of good luck. The illustration was done by Kipling's son to accompany a short story by another author, about choosing an emperor. Apparently the elephant is better than most at recognizing future emperors! The illustration appeared in 1894, long before the symbol became infamous.

I don't have a picture with me at work, but there's a page in one of the Red Sox World Series programs (1915 or 1916) which shows a picture of the Red Sox ownership, and right beneath the picture is a swastika.

Without the proper context, that picture could create quite a scandal, but was harmless at the time.

If you're gonna be a racist at least get the symbols right...that kid was too stupid and ignorant to be a decent bigot.
