Anyone, more specifically I guess, can anyone give an opinion if they think these signatures are from Joe Dimaggio or fraud. Thank you

The one on ebay has a COA from our good friends at B&J Collectibles.
Their COA means don't walk away, just run away.

Richard,
Thank you. Any thoughts with the one on the plaque? I'm sure there are too many threads to count on COA topics but are any 90% reliable when it comes to guys such as Joe Dimaggio and Mantle?
Appreciate it

Wow. The fact that the ball on Ebay looks like it was signed by a four year old should give you an indication that it is best to stay away. The "COA" is the proverbial icing on the cake (or it could be that the "COA" was done by a four year old and the autograph is the proverbial icing on the cake....either way works really).

Wow. Was it a late in life example? It looks terrible. I know he had some sort of deal with B&J that fell through and he sued them...was that just before he passed away or something?

He had a deal and signed thousands of baseballs for them. They took there forged ones and mixed them up. Then they made a deal with GAI and had them all authenticated. Thiis happens to be an authentic one. You had a 30 percent chance of getting a good one.

I believe there was a story in the DiMaggio biography how he signed for B&J and there were cases of signed balls in the B&J warehouse. A day or two after DiMaggio had left, the amount of signed items had mysteriously doubled in the warehouse.

I believe the lawsuit was over signed bats, if I recall correctly.

It's been years since I read it, but the memorabilia fiasco was covered in great detail in Joe DiMaggio: The Hero's Life.

My takeaway was Joe was not someone you wanted to have business dealings with. Of course, I have no sympathy for B&J Collectibles.

Joe was not one you would want to have any dealings with. He was a prick.

Zip, Dimaggio sued them for backing out of the remainder of the contract. Yes they not only doubled but tripled the amount of signed balls. They where very smart. Hire the guy and then sell the rest of there garbage as authentic. He did that with Berra, Koufax and at least a dozen other players.

I was at least ten signings with him. You could not ask for a better signature. That is all you can say nice about him.:(

It's a typical B&J Collectibles.

B&J definitely had some authentic DiMaggio sigs, but that's not one of them.

If someone from here wins it and submits it to PSA or JSA, I guarantee they will not authenticate it.

It's slowly penned, the baseline is way off, etc.

It's the same forgery sold by the Bergen County Prosecutor.

The truth is, Shelly, DiMaggio is one of the most difficult sigs to "authenticate."

The majority of people who look at a "Joe DiMaggio" autograph really don't know what they are looking at.

There are many people who make fun of "me and my trained eye," but it works for me, and it comes from looking at a ton of autographs every week.

This is the one in question, correct?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/221657522782

Note the slow, heavy connection between the gg and the slow, deliberate "io"

It's not quite as slow and wobbly as the fake B&J ball Chris posted, but in my opinion it is from the same hand.

Sorry, Shelly! :)

Exactly, Steve.

As there are variations in Joe D's sig (for every signer), those that pen forgeries, also have variations of the forgeries they pen.

Thank you Shelly and Chris,
Very educational on the subject. Chris you said Mr Dimaggio is one of the most difficult to authenticate, is it due to the skill of the frauds or Dimaggios wasn't always that consistent on his signature?
Shelly if you are wrong, your insight warranted such excellent feedback that is exceptionally greater than just yes or no.
Thank you

Signatures change all of the time.

I probably own (I wrote "probably") every variation of Joe D's sig, and it's a matter of "training your eye" for characteristics.

Once you can do that, you can "look" at autographs that you aren't that familiar with and opine on them.

When it comes to explaining the "technicalities" of an autograph, I can't do it.

Remember that signed Joe D. bat that was posted on here? Everyone but Mr. Zipper and myself thought it was a forgery. I knew immediately it was authentic.

When you master your "eye," you can get some great deals without alerting the autograph community and asking them to opine on it.

I once picked up a Joe D. signed golf program for $28.00.

I've picked up a few snow-white Mickey Mantle autographed baseballs for between $160.00 and $220.00.

Once you get to a level of "training your eye," the deals are out there.

I learn something new about autographs every day. Yes, every day.

Just curious if anyone knows, are the 1993 Pinnacle signed DiMaggio cards (the ones that came in the tins with the set) authentic? They seem all over the board considering they were probably all signed around the same time.

If I was in the market for a later in life DiMaggio signed ball, I would go after one of the ones he signed with the "Yankee Clipper" inscription on the sweet spot with his signature. I have always liked the look of those and they are available for around $300-350 or so. A little more than a plain single, but for me I would go the extra little bit to get ones with that inscription. I just like them.

If you're going to base your purchase on price, you better know DiMaggio's autograph.

I previously wrote, that I have picked up some nice Joe D. sigs at ridiculously low prices because they weren't accompanied with a "COA."

There are plenty of PSA and JSA certed Joe D. autographs on Ebay.

Thoughts? Is it fake or real, to me the Bob Feller looks good. On the Dimaggio the flow looks good just not 100% on the J. on most others Ive seen to be deemed authentic this D doesnt have the normal cursive loop.

Thank you

I don't care for the Dimaggio. It appears too controlled without the usual spontaneity and flow. Here is mine.
