a few examples: T206 sheet-size, reason for the scarcity of T206 Plank cards, Coupon cards categorization, what constitutes a rookie card?, should photographs get their own Net54 sub-forum... I am sure there are many more, but this should suffice for stirring up trouble…I mean, discussion.

That's really good - I forgot about HOF arguments.

Another good one is ebay shilling discussions, which is actually my least favorite. Personally, I like the T206 sheet-size threads.

As long as it's a hot dinner, I guess it qualifies as a "heated" discussion.

My favorite (as in 'not my favorite') was a girlfriend who refused to recommend where to eat dinner, but never liked my choice.

Patrick, the idea for this thread came when I accidentally discovered an archived 2003 thread about rookie cards. It involved so much personal preference and opinion, making it no-win, yet people still got their backs up. I do it too, so not claiming superiority…although if you want to claim I'm superior, I'm good with that.

Well Johnny, I hope you continue to enjoy these scraps vicariously through the collections of others, and that every now and then one of your friends tosses a sympathy scrap your way :)

As far as "hate on something good" - I don't hate them;in fact I love them. If you remember, I wrote an article about them. I will gladly buy additional scraps if I think they are enough below the current market value that I can re-sell them at a profit. I sold my previous ones for a reason - I just wasn't in love with them enough to keep them, and I got serious bucks for every last one of them, which I used to buy other things. You are a smart guy - you understand this. Quit playing dumb :) I find it ironic that you personally had such a huge part in destroying your own ability to collect something you love. You talked so much about them that you convinced your friends who had cash, and now you're kind of out of the game.

For your sake, given how much you wish you could afford to buy some, I wish the market price had stayed low. I'm sure you miss those days. Me - I sold all of mine, so obviously I wasn't quite so in love with them as you. That makes them a commodity in my mind, and that's still how I look at them.

In 1983 I could have bought a T206 Wagner for well under $50,000. I didn't. I regret it. Scraps - not so much.

Good luck, Johnny. I hope you get over being scrap poor and assuming everyone else feels the same way.

...and as far as scrap envy goes, ask Chris what my thoughts were when the huge T206 collection with scraps and rare backs became available during the National.

I would have bought them in a heartbeat if I had found a partner, I would have studied the scraps until I fell asleep with them in my lap, learning as much as I possibly could have from them - maybe even written another article.

Then I would have sold every last one of them.

Man what the heck is going on around here lately. First Pete starts a T206

have put 2 to 1 on Pete over Johnny).

analogous to coins, stamps, ect.....

It just took a little while to catch on.....

an upside down airplane on a stamp? a miscut bill? they all bring insane moola:eek:

they are highly collected/valued/cherished.....

T206 and rarer cardboard can't even be in the same category as 80's and 90's crap!!!

they were so over/mass produced and valued, the "Thomas" 1990 topps error nnof , or some of the other ones tanked with the rest of the cards....

These T206 errors took the opposite climb to popularity !!

and the fire has been lit....

you have to own one Ben! Email me....I know where there is a deal or two on one:D after you own one, they are very tough to let go....

the value is the fun of even owning one....

just ask Turner! ;) he just had his "scrap cherry popped" with that sick ames:eek:;)
