Never seen it. Are there any identifying marks on the back or anywhere that can't be seen? It looks like a very poor reprint or copy of a photo, from the scan.

Hi-
I too think it looks like a more modern printing (1970s-80s). I am not sure if there was a premium it was copied from, or someone just made a copy of an early Gehrig photo. Bcookie, what makes you think it is a premium? Can you post a link to the auction you mentioned where it sold for 200?

I am not able to post a ling as I am posting from a not so updated phone. If you Google image search Lou Gehrig Premium it is on the first search page. The auction was done by Legendary Auctions.

Can you please post the link as I would like more thoughts on the piece.

I saw nothing in Legendary's write up, except them stating it is a premium, to convince me it's a premium.

Seems you have the exact physical item sold in the auction you refer to - the chips on the left border are a dead giveaway.

That's what I was kind of leaning towards when I saw and posted it. The clarity on 1930's premium is usually pretty good- this image looks grainy, like something that has been reprinted many times through the years before finding its way onto this 'premium'. Of course, I can be wrong, but thats my take.

Or it could just be a really good copy of that copy?

I was using that picture as an example. I just won one on ebay. I will post the item number

I like the first line in the auction description: "This is an astonishingly rare vintage item"

but yet in the entire description, there is no solid provenance or history or any details whatsoever that would make it rare. Also, it only sold for a little over $200.

18.88 seems like a reasonable price for it?

maybe a reprint of a reprint.....it's madness, where does it all stop. :D
