I think I am getting desperate on finding new type cards. Here is a recent pickup, R161, W.D. Productions. I won on the evil ebay (where I still buy a large majority of my stuff). The seller I won it from is a board member and sent it to me for free. I thought that was a super nice gesture. Surely to get an overwhelming amount of posts and comments, please show your R161s!!

Seems you got a type card and printer's scrap at the same time (registration error). Great pick up:)

Can you tell us more about this issue? "Carioca" is the nickname for someone from Rio de Janeiro.

Well........you have a couple more batting cards from R161.....Goofy and Mickey. A gallery of all (24) cards from the set is at:

http://www1.coe.neu.edu/~dan/R161/go.html

Pretty crude strip card set issued in strips of 8.....like most of the 1930's strip card sets.....

According to wikipedia, Jose Carioca "is a Disney cartoon character drawn as an anthropomorphized parrot from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (thus "Carioca", a term which refers to a person born there). José was created in 1942 for the movie Saludos Amigos as a friend of Donald Duck, described by Time as "a dapper Brazilian parrot, who is as superior to Donald Duck as the Duck was to Mickey Mouse". He returned in the 1944 film The Three Caballeros along with Donald and a Mexican rooster named Panchito Pistoles."

Strange that he is said to be created in 1942 but the cards are apparently from the '30s. Maybe issued over multiple years?

Interesting.............definitely possible later than 1930's. No dating whatsoever on any of those strip sets that I know of.....

Thanks for the info.

If I hadn't already gone with Jobu I think I would take Panchito Pistoles as my username.

Leon, methinks you are getting really desperate to add to your fabulous type-card collection!! Better you should finally take the plunge by adding 19th Century cards and/or post-War cards!! :D
Best,
Val

Random fact: There is a boat ride in the Mexico area of Epcot that is based on The Three Caballeros.
