I grabbed this together with some other cards, and I realise that I don't know much about it or the series besides that it is rare, Argentinian, part of a series called Tarjeton Crack and issued in 1968. Does anyone have any more info about the series? Number of cards? Other international players featured? Anything? It would be nice to have some more info to add to my website about this. Thanks!

It is a 1968 Argentinean issue. It is not called "Tarjeton Crack". "Crack"is the name of the card maker. "Tarjeton" is the card format. The set is called "Golazo". It consists of 442 small disks [we'd call them 'pogs'; they call them "figuritas"], 140 stand-up cartoons [called "silhuettas"], and 128 oversized cards called "tarjetones autografiados" of soccer players and race car drivers. You managed to snag the key card in the set, obviously. Here is another from the set:

And my Pele:

For my money, one of the best soccer issues ever, from a format perspective.

Adam, thank you very much for this info. Thats a huge collection, I had no idea! Is it ok to use this info in my blog? Also, do you have any idea if this is the one that PSA grades as "1968 Figuritas Sport 25 Pele" ??

Where are you getting that from? I don't see that reference in the PSA Pele master set or in the 1968 soccer cards.

Then again, they habitually slap 'figurita' on everything from Argentina. I've seen it on 1965 Crack and 1967 Crack tarjetones in boxing. I've given up trying to sort out their checklist messes on the boxing side. The player registries are laughably incomplete and riddled with errors.

Adam,

That Pele is killer! Great condition on a great card!

Best,

Andy

Adam, if you search for "1968 Pele" you should see it. It is not in the Pele Master set and they have it under the category "European/Foreign Cards". I think they have graded only one card of that "1968 Figuritas sport 25 Pele". I cant think of any other card that would fit better under that description. We could probably mail PSA and ask if this is the card they mean.

By the way, do you know if those are hand cuts? What are exactly those weird back sides?

They are machine cut. The backs are puzzles of soccer teams.
