View Full Version : What living person would you be most likely to pester for an autograph?

Assume you were lucky enough to meet someone famous in a context when asking for an autograph would not be unsafe/ill-mannered/inconvenient, etc. Who would you most like that person to be?

I pretty much gotta go with Bruce Springsteen. 2nd place, Steven Spielberg. 3rd place, Paul McCartney. Honorable mentions: Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page, Harrison Ford, Pele.

Of course, if it was on a good day for him medically and I could pre-select the item to be signed, then Muhammad Ali would be up there too.

Intriguing question.

1. Tommy Thompson - would get him to sign a gold coin of some sort.
2. Larry Dierker - I have a '67 Astros ball that is only missing his signature.
3. Doug Hofstadter - just because he wrote me a very pleasant email once, and I love his books.
4. Paul McCartney - signed base-ball (because of the pun)

Paul McCartney. A signed 1964 Topps Beatles BW 160 is one of my holy grails. Met him briefly in 2011 but even if I had it to sign it wouldn't have worked because the interaction was 45 seconds of me fumbling words and shaking like a Polaroid.

Would kill to get McCartney on my White album on white vinyl. It is a beautiful record and is just missing that 2K boost.

I'd like to meet Yogi Berra, Nolan Ryan, and one of our former presidents whose name I won't mention, and get their autographs. I have a half dozen signed Nolan Ryan pieces (a ball, a rookie card, and a handful of other signed cards) but would love to get an in person autograph at some point.

Up until a couple years ago the choice of Mandela would've been easy for me, but since his passing I might go with the Dalai Lama, the Pope, Jordan, McCartney, or Elvis(He didn't really die)

A couple years ago I would've said Bob feller as he's a notorious tough signer

Heh. The hardest thing to find in the hobby? An unsigned Feller picture.

I'd like to talk to that young lady who just won the Nobel Peace Prize. If she did sign a picture or ball, I'd put them in an auction and donate the money to a charity of her choice. Sam Majors

A couple of years ago, I would have said Neil Armstrong. Met him once and got a photo with him, but no auto.

Now, I'd go with Paul McCartney.

Lemmy. I don't even think I would be able to talk if I met him. Just thinking about it makes me nervous even though he seems like a great guy.

Motorhead Lemmy?

I find it strange that a bunch of baseball card/autograph geeks like us mostly picked musicians.

Maybe because most ballplayers are accessible to some degree (even if it is for a price) whereas entertainers are a lot less accessible.

Now that Neil Armstrong is gone, I've been struggling to come up with someone I'd really like to meet. I've met 7 of the 12 men who walked on the moon and 4 of the Mercury 7.

I've seen Motorhead live a few times. They were selling drum heads autographed by the band at the Motorhead merch table. I didn't get to officially meet him, but I was in the 1st row and I left the show with his autograph, so I guess that is as close as I'm going to get.

I saw Motörhead in the late 80s in a small club in Syracuse, NY... the Lost Horizon.

My ears still hurt thinking about how loud it was. :D
