View Full Version : If you could only have one...

I had a conversation with my CEO today. When we exchanged pleasantries, he asked if I had any plans for the weekend. I told him about the show at Valley Forge and my intention to attend.

As it turns out, he collected baseball cards in his youth. As we made our way through the conversation, he eventually asked me what card was most "special" to me.

Without hesitation, I let him know that my father and I built a set together when I was a kid. While the members of this board might not relate to the specific set, which was 1993 Donruss, they should understand the general idea.

So, I ask you the following:

If you were stranded on a deserted island...no Internet...no phones, no lights, no motor cars...not a single luxury...what one piece of cardboard collecting would you keep?

Best regards,

Eric

Peter,

Really? Ginger from GI?

Alongside her, what would you keep?

Best,

Eric

No brown nosin'! (;

Sorry, I'm from a job where we hated our boss.

For me, it'd be the only one from my youth. 1968 OPC Bobby Orr.

Killjoy was here.

Forgive me. None. Cardboard and deserted islands don't get along. Again, sorry.

Because I personally lack any sense of reality , I veered off the question...I think OP was trying to get us to choose a cherished cardboard piece to keep us occupied on the island.
I'd like to have the 1971 Topps FB set so I could memorize each player, each of their stats and the witty Topps Bios on the back.
Oh wait, I already did that;)

Ok, give me one of my 1927 York Caramel E210-2 Lou Gehrig cards. I won't need both if I am on a deserted island , that would be crazy.

My exhibit collection. And as long as we are taking women from classic tv shows as they were too, I'll take Julie Newmar; she's purrfect:

As Dragline in 'Cool Hand Luke' said, 'Oh Lord, whatever I done wrong, please don't strike me blind for another couple a minutes.'

Somehow I don't think this thread is going the way Eric thought it would.

I think he was interested in what baseball cards, not which card did you have late at night with lotion and a box of tissues.

Very true, but at least the guys are being truthful. If you were stranded on an island alone, do you really think you would give two sh*ts about a baseball card? Sorry, but a picture of a beautiful woman would absolutely be top of the list for most men...

But to follow along with what Eric wants out of this thread, I'm sure everyone actually knew what he really meant :D

You are right, of course...here is my other Babe :

At least it would be waterproof - and, thankfully, his legs are nothing like Julie Newmar's!

Card: my 1951 topps red back Gil hodges. First vintage card my parents ever bought for me.
Vintage TV female : Mary Tyler Moore (especially in her Laura Petry days)

While I never intended for this to become a "hot women" thread, I can certainly understand why members would prefer a photo of a gorgeous female to a long dead sporting male, especially if they were deserted on an island.

Since women from TV and movies have been introduced, I will wander into the weeds a bit, too.

Perhaps a picture of Marilyn Monroe would be better company if I were stranded. :)

Best regards,

Eric

I have a friend who manages Dawn. Have met her a couple of times and had the good fortune to attend one of her birthday parties. She's a nice lady who has held up remarkably well.
