Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else collects autographed newspaper clippings of famous ball players. I think that they are a really unique and interesting item to collect. Here are a few of HOFers that I have picked up through the years.

Please share your own pictures.

Best regards,

Joe

I have 1 or 2 autographed newspaper clippings in my collection from the Ambrose Edens collection ( old time collectors should remember his name as a hobby pioneer). However , I never really considered it as a collecting niche , but you have some nice pieces ..congratulations!!

Personally I like them and they can oftentimes be had for significantly less than even a 3x5. Unfortunately they are also generally small unless a magazine page. No good for resale, but for a personal collection I like them.

Hey Kenny,

I really like the Stengel & Wheat autographs. What's cool is the autographs are in different color ink. The collector that obtained the autographs must have hunted down the players at different signings.

I'm surprised that we don't see more autograph clipping collectors around. I like the variety of photographs and unlike the more conventional 8 X 10 glossy pictures the original collector decided the picture that was going to be autographed.

I keep mine in single 8 X 10 plastic sheets in an album for easy viewing.

Happy collecting,

Joe

Joe,
I suspect that Kenny's were signed TTM, not at modern shows, FWIW.

Joe,
I like your collection of HOF newspaper photos.

Yes, I do collect signed newspaper clippings of pitchers that threw no-hitters.

I own several of Johnny Vander Meer who, as many of you know, is one of my collecting focuses.

Also included are some photos of newspaper clippings of:
Don Larsen (World Series Perfect Game 1956)
Cliff Chambers (No-hitter 1951)
Virgil Trucks (2 no-hitters 1952)
Bill Monbouquette (No-hitter 1962)
Bob Forsch (2 no-hitters 1978 and 1983)
Vida Blue (No-hitter 1970)

FWIW, I do like collecting these. The majority of all of these came from the amazing autograph collection of James McAllister, who sent these clippings to be signed by the player TTM. Inexpensive, but fun to collect!

Thanks. Wheat and Stengel were life long friends. They grew up together in KC. When Wheat made it with the Dodgers, he told the Scout Larry Sutton that he had a buddy back home that was a good player. He got him a tryout. This piece came from Zach, and I don't know when Stengel would have signed it. Could have been at a HOF induction or event or could have been through the mail. Casey always had kind words for Zach whenever he was asked about him.

I have a few, but almost always prefer signed cards whenever possible over any other item.
