I got a '76 All-Star Rookie Dawson for $0.75 and '72 Ted Williams mgr card for $2, and that got me thinking about the coolest cards available for just a buck or two, say, up to the year 1992 when I quit collecting.

What are your best finds? Any suggestions for me?

Limiting myself to a shoestring budget to try to enjoy collecting versus the agony and stress of "investing" in pricier stuff, I think this will be my new focus for a while.

How about the '86 Sportlics rookies Barry Larkin for $2? Larkin is a hall of famer and its his only '86 card. Plus, there are fewer of those than his 87 Topps, Donruss, and Fleer.

Cool focus! You need...

1. 1987 Donruss Greg Maddux (tied with his 1987 Leaf rookie)-both can be bought for that price if you take your time.
2. What team do you root for?.. Buy the Donruss Diamond Kings cards of all the players on your team who appeared in this set (especially early 80's examples)
3) the Nolan Ryan that appeals to you and..
4. The Reggie Jackson card that appeals to you (both from this time period; there are a lot of cool cards of both)
5. and 6. 1987 Topps and Fleer Greg Maddux..."is this list biased?"- don't know what you're talking about...
7.a cheap Barry Bond Rookie card (i.e. 1986 Topps, and 1987 rookie)
8. A nice 1987 McGwire card: 1987 Donruss, Fleer, ETC..
9,10,11,12- an early 80's Pete Rose, or Tom Seaver, or Johnny Bench, or whichever player you like from this time period!

Most importantly, have fun! This is my personal list but if you find your 'groove' go with it! I think this is a great period to collect- a lot of great players for very little money can be collected here; have fun!

How about the '86 Topps Traded Bo Jackson or the '84 Donruss Tony Gwynn? The '84 Donruss has fewer quantities than his '83 cards.

There is also the '90 Classic Chipper Jones. It's his only 1990 card from an MLB product.

I like the '91 Upper Deck Michael Jordan and '89 Upper Deck Nolan Ryan 3D too.
