Hi Guys - Need a little help here. Back when I was a kid, I remember getting 1987 Classic Green baseball game complete with 100 card set. If you remember correctly this set contained the hot Bo Jackson "Auburn" Rookie card. About 12 years ago I picked up an unopened box for sentimentality purposes and it's still in my closet, unopened. I see that graded cards from this set, PSA10's for example (even some 9's), sell for huge dough on EBay. Does anyone know why this is and is it worth cracking the box and shipping them out to be graded? Or were the cards so poorly manufactured that it's nearly impossible to be graded high? Thanks.

Color borders that were easily chipped make high grades harder to find.

I actually played with this set when I was a kid... I did find a sealed one at a flea market a few years back, cracked it open only to find that many of the cards were off center

I bought a sealed set a few years ago just to get the Mets cards, I paid less than $5. A lot of the cards were off center.

I remember reading that 50,000 sets were made, that should make it a little harder to find.

Corners tend to be rough on these, too, because of they way there were packaged. Classic had a tendency to wrap the cards a little too tight and/or they got bumped around in the game box.

Thanks all. The sealed ones are still pretty reasonably priced, maybe I'll crack this one open and have a look.

PSA has become more familiar with this set and in turn become more lenient with grading.

Edges on these are poorly cut, similar to OPeeChee cards. As for the Bo, it is almost always OC top to bottom. I have opened many of these sets and got quite a few 10s but never had a Bo grade above a 7.
