I know it's Lyons rookie card.
Has to be the rookie card thing. There were around 5 different bidders over $1000...
The winner paid to much for that card, although I believe the underbidder was just right and a damn fine American too.

Agreed, being the Lyons rookie card definitely drove up the price way beyond a typical Diaz HOF'er at Lyons' level (Ruffing is also a RC and would be the same situation). The card presents very well and there is nothing else close to it when it comes to a Lyons RC. In short, if I was still in the HOF RC game (and saw this card on e-bay), I would have gone higher, at least $2K. These are so rare and impossible to find, I spent nearly 10 years looking for an example and never came across one that was available for sale/auction.

When trying to figure out what to bid, I was searching everywhere to find a completed sales price on a Diaz Lyons and I came up empty but I could have swore I saw one for sale from a auction house within these past couple years? With a few sec. left I bid $750 thinking I had a chance but not expecting to not even be half way. Nice card and congrats to the winner
