Yeah, there was a red Crawford SGC 40 that sold on eBay this weekend for a bit over $700. There was a previous sale in the last few years that was closer to $650. I threw in a snipe in the $600s, but no dice.

The same group included a Jennings which was pretty heavily creased and chipped, and it sold for $275, which I thought was high for the condition.

SGC-A blue LaJoie in 2012 with some paper loss and a few minor creases: $310 (http://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball-cards/singles-pre-1930-/1911-e94-close-candy-nap-lajoie-sgc-authentic/a/151238-44007.s)

SGC-A violet LaJoie in 2014 with a missing top and worse registration but an otherwise clean front: $900 (http://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball-cards/singles-pre-1930-/1911-e94-close-candy-napoleon-lajoie-violet-sgc-authentic/a/151409-41017.s)

I guess a couple of people really want those violet ones.

There are very few purple Cobbs and they are popular. I believe there are only 7 or 8.

Guys, I picked up that Cobb. I'm trying to put together a purple e94 set, and am now up to 14. The Cobb is virtually impossible. I've been looking for one from the first day I've been in the hobby, and missed the one at the Baltimore National in a SGC 20 by an hour a couple yrs ago. Outside of that one, this is the only other one to come to the market I've seen. I thought it would go for at least 2k, but someone else wanted/needed it as bad as me I guess. His image isn't bad, but the card is game used for sure. I had to take what I could get.

In my November, 2008 auction, I sold an E94 purple Cobb in SGC 40 condition (lot #2), for $8037. It went to a collector who was also working on a purple subset. Don't know if he ever finished it, or if he still has it.

Barry, I know who picked that one up in your auction, and he's further along than me with his set and still at it. I know of that Cobb purple, along with 6 others(including tbob's) that I'm aware of. That 40 was a beauty for sure.

First off, Pete is correct -- it's an incredibly difficult Cobb to find and I don't think the price is so crazy when you consider what is paid for some common T206s with quasi-rare backs. As for the one at the Baltimore National two years ago, I was literally making my last walk-through before leaving and wandered by Levi's tables -- I rarely would spend too much time at Levi's because he sells great post-war cards, 50s Topps sets, etc. -- and BOOM -- this one hit me between the eyes. I couldn't pay for it fast enough.

If he's still working on it, that gives you an idea of how tough it is to complete. Good luck in your quest.

Jeff, just a beautiful card, congrats! Barry, it is an extremely difficult undertaking, but the hunt is always a fun one.

4 common E94s:

E94 Turner (violet) PSA 5 $2026.01
E94 Lobert (gold) PSA 6 MK $1125.00
E94 Devore (red) PSA 4 $831.01
E94 Lord (red) PSA 3.5 $535.09

Yup, prices are still strong on E94s....

Nah Scott, only Cobb and Turner are valuable in violet. Yours should bring a few hundred at auction though 👍

Pete,
That card was part of the REA partial set that sold in their last auction. I'm amazed it got a 3, looks like a 20/30 to me...

That's a beauty Scott.
The demand is extremely strong for violets but surprisingly enough, based on my collecting the master set, the olive greens appear to be even tougher than the violets and golds, especially in PSA 4 or better.
