So, I received my lot today, I won the Big Six Board Game supposedly from the Dr. Mark Cooper Collection. I've known Mark for some time. I am happy to own this, if it is what was pictured in the auction lot. You tell me:

Here is the auction description and link:

http://sports.ha.com/itm/baseball-collectibles/others/1922-big-six-christy-mathewson-indoor-baseball-game/a/7105-82042.s#1129311293777

Here is a picture of what I received (Heritage pics are the 2 on the left and mine of what I just opened on the right)

No 1905 lineup card here, no ad here, box top doesn't even REMOTELY look the same (examine the markings and tell me)

I paid a premium for this having known Mark for a while, and in my email to him, he replied to me this is the BEST Big Six known. NOT the one I received, unless my old eyes are failing me.

Please 54 members, please chime in. Could they have sent me the wrong item???

Kinda hard to see, but tell tale sign is the one I bought (or so I thought) was the one on the cover of his book, as can be marked by the stain on the lower left corner. Mark and I corresponded after I won it and he stated "it is the BEST Big Six around".

Here is his book cover

Agree the game top received is not the one pictured in the auction, however, the auction does state (although not very clearly) that the 1905 line-up card is not present.

Still wouldn't be happy with the cover switch.

I Know Dave, but it isn't just the box top. The flaps on the box bottom shown in HA's auction shows intact flaps, mine are all broken. Also, if they say the 1905 lineup isn't included, why do they picture it??

See my last post on this. Something is amiss.

Done!!! Peter C and I have exchanged emails and they are going to refund me and he apologized for the mixup. Long story.

What is the story? Seems like a pretty big screw up.

Glad it all worked out.

They should still send me some free stuff for my troubles.

UPDATE: It hasn't worked out as yet. I just corresponded with Dr. Mark Cooper and he tells me the one in the auction catalog is the one he sent them, NOT the one HA sent me, so I emailed Peter Calderon and Chris Ivy for an explanation. They told me that they had an email whereby Mark Cooper told them to send one to the HOF yet Mark himself just told me HE sent one to the HOF, and the one in the catalog was the correct one to be auctioned!! Mark himself stated they must have sent me the wrong one.

Something is amiss!!

What are they doing about it?

I am awaiting a reply now. Initially they said they would refund me because they sent the one pictured in the catalog to the HOF, but that is contradictory to what Dr. Mark Cooper has told me yesterday.

We will see.

Clearly did not deliver the item you purchased; hope you get a refund.

I talked to Heritage last week about auctioning some of my games off but after talking to them and hearing what they were going to take etc, I decided to stay with ebay.
Sorry for all you have gone through.

I wouldn't be concerned about consigning through Heritage - they normally do an excellent job. I don't know what was going on with them agreeing to send a consignor's item to the HOF, but it obviously caused problems for them which would be easy enough to avoid in the future. We don't know all the details, and haven't heard from either of the parties involved, so we really don't know who's at fault.

(I was really careful about my wording in the above, but I'm guessing I will still soon find a virtual rock tied around my neck.)

Agree with Scott.... an unusual and unique situation, which is not necessarily indicative of the typical Heritage "experience".

Would love to hear from Heritage on this matter, as the contradiction does seem very odd. I know that this site is always on their radar, and usually they are pretty good about posting here. Very eager to hear what type of resolution is achieved

Sounds like miscommunication rather than an outright effort to deceive.

I haven't spoken with Chris I. about this situation though I did send him a link, when it first went up, so he could have a heads up if he didn't see it himself. Generally I hope folks will try to work something out before posting but to each their own. I just know that when I make a mistake I like to be given a chance to fix it before being tried in the court of public opinion. It's not a big deal but still..... That being said I am very confident if there was something that was bid on, and the picture was incorrect for the bidder(s), then Heritage will make it right. I have no doubt at all about that.

ALL,

Just an FYI, HA is making it right by me by refunding my funds plus shipping. It seems like an honest mistake but it went down the wrong path when the original consignor and I traded correspondence after I received my winnings. I have heard from Chris Ivy and Peter and received my FedEx return label today, albeit I would want the item instead.

In the end, it is just "stuff" and it is all OK. Not my first time bidding with Heritage and won't be my last.

Thanks,
Greg

P.S. Leon if you want to lock this thread, I am OK too as I am satisfied with HA's resolution.

Glad it all worked out. Seems unfortunate for both you and the auction house. No one wins in some situations. As for locking any thread I prefer not to unless there is some extraordinary reason.
