Up until 1994 I collected any item listed for Topps baseball in the SCD Standard Catalog. That included the 1989 and 1990 Batting Leaders sets. Both sets involved 22 cards that were inserted one each in K Mart blister packs of 100 Topps cards from those two years.

I initially was trying to put together the sets a card at a time but is was slow going finding them. Then I saw an auction for 44 full KMart blister packs in which all 44 Batting Leaders were visible in the middle column of the blister pack. So, to complete the sets I bought them all. Since I already had completed the 89 & 90 Topps sets, all 44 blister packs with an extra 4400 Tops cards sit intact in a niche of my Card Room :(. Compulsive collecting to an extreme :)

That's really cool.

With so much overproduction back then, I think we all miss some of the sets like these that were retail only and not in cheap packs.

They can be annoyingly tough until you come across a big pile of them.

Some of the HSN exclusives I believe are even tougher. I think most went to casual or non-collectors and since the price was high to start we might not see most of them for another 10 years or so.

I have a couple of that sort of set, and they're generally not even cataloged.
(One a retail exclusive that I didn't know about until a relative bought one for me. The other a Tv shopping exclusive that's got an insert that wasn't available anywhere else. )

Yes those are nice looking cards.

I think I have a couple, probably picked up at garage sales 20 years ago.

I also have no idea where they are, probably in boxes of 1990's cards, of
which I have a lot of.

What's the checklist for that set? I never saw these in 1989 -- but they seem like a really nice set. Love that you love the obscure :)

Wow, that is great you were able to find all of those. I don't see the Brett's very often and then they are usually chipped. I have always like both of those
cards.

Just letting them age and appreciate :)
