I've posted these in the May/June pick up threads, but they are much more at home here in this thread. This is a trio of some of the most ridiculously tough 'In Action' cards to find even remotely centered properly.

I never noticed the bat in the lower left corner of the Tom Haller in action.

Did the runner slide over it, and kick it up into the air?

Very odd.

For the rack pack at the bottom, is it unusual to have cards from the both the 3rd and 5th series showing on the front of a pack? From previous threads it was clear that in 1973 that Topps issued cards from multiple series together, but did Topps also do this in 1972?

Back to the theme of the thread, one of my favorite sets too:

Another odd thing about the Haller card is he's listed on the Tigers (on his 'regular' card #175)…but that's a Met sliding into home plate!!

(The shot was taken when he was on the Dodgers.)

One of my biggest beefs with the IA card. Player selection. Haller and Billy Martin represent the Tigers.

I always hated the Bob Barton "In Action" card.

Seriously?

This was the best action shot you could find!?

Scan heavy, but I just got these back from PSA. These came from the nicest raw set I have ever seen for a 72, I think you might agree. There are a plethora of other 9s, many low pop, that I did not scan. Enjoy:

Here's a trivia quiz--
what player whose card is pictured in this post made his MLB debut in the 2nd game of the Father's Day double header when jim bunning pitched a perfect game?

JollyElm

I know Rick Wise 'famously' got his first career win in that second game, but it wasn't his ML debut…so I'm out.

I guess the baseball Gods felt they owed one from the Brock trade. ;)

It went full circle if you include the Fergie Jenkins trade.

Rick Wise did have one of the best days ever by a pitcher, pitching a no-hitter and hitting two home runs. Against a pretty darn good lineup.

Yes, Wise, Fernando Tatis, Mark Whiten and Bud Smith all had memorable moments as Cardinals. But meanwhile Steve Carlton.... :)

Lots of bad trades in the lste 60's and early 70's.

Jerry Reuss for Scipio Spinks and Lance Clemons
Reggie Smith for Joe Ferguson
Jose Cruz
Mike Torrez
Jose Cardenal
Bobby Tolan for Vada Pinson

One of the few good ones was Cepeda for Torre.

In Sept., 1969, carlton (then with the Cardinals) became the 1st pitcher to strike out 19 batters in a 9 inning game and couldn't seal the deal. He lost to the Mets thanks to 2 2 run homers by that very nice young man Ron Swoboda of the 1969 World Champion Mets.

Maybe they should have airbrushed the other guy out like they tried to do with the 57 Mantle :)
