A nice start to the month with a new addition to my '52 Topps set. My goal is to find cards with only the best centering, and this one fits in nicely!

Nice high # card. His only season was 52. He was a sandlot player prior to 1952. An example of the many marginal players ( some never making it in the ML) and coaches that were included in the 52 Topps set during their contract wars with Bowman

That is a great 6! Nice pick up! When I was on the grounds crew at SD Stadium '75 - '77, he was the Pirates trainer. I gave him his '52T and '53T to sign, which he happily did. But not B4 delightfully showing the cards around to younger Pirates in the dugout, who were young enough to be his kids. My impression nearly 40 years later: helluva nice guy!

Funny you mention that. I was aware he only played in '52 and wrapped up his pro career in September of that year...so why did he have a Topps card in '53?

And speaking of marginal players in the '52 set...how about poor Johnny Kucab? He disappears after '52, this is his only card, and it seems to be the lowest valued card in the whole high series. I've seen cards of his that have sat on ebay for years. He just doesn't sell.

Again, nothing truly spectacular, but some cool 1972 cards. First, I picked up 3 more PSA 8 high numbers…
http://i1226.photobucket.com/albums/ee404/JollyElm/Vintage%20High%20Numbers/1972psahighs7_zps70c9a8f0.jpg (http://s1226.photobucket.com/user/JollyElm/media/Vintage%20High%20Numbers/1972psahighs7_zps70c9a8f0.jpg.html)

And then we have another of the absolutely toughest 'In Action' cards to ever find decently centered. The Haller is off-the-charts insane to find like this!! The McGinn is the variation version where part of the top border is sheared off. What's notable about this card is the error isn't a function of being off-center top to bottom. You find it on perfectly centered cards, too.

Very nice cards, Darren. I really like the 72 set for their colors.

And I have always liked Roger as a Cardinal. He helped them have very good years in 67 &. 68. He later got a beer distributorship from the Bush family for his service. That situation/relationship did become a little contentious after his death

Picked up this 1964 Topps Yaz and expect more 64 Topps in the mail today. Centering is a little off but the price was right.

Starting a complete set of 1964 Topps. Will start with graded stars and then fill in with EX - NMT commons.

Apparently 1964 Topps are taking over for the time. Nice pickup of 64's. Just picked up these two for a great price. Was not on my want list but came across them when I went to a seller's house to look at a 1958 PSA 8 Mays and 1967 PSA 7 Mantle that he was selling for one of his relatives. He says he had some cards that he got from his father and was going to get rid of them. The price was right so I had to take and put the Mays and Mantle on hold. I hope to pick them up in the next or so.

My favorite Gibson card

I'd say that's probably my second favorite Gibson. My favorite would be his '75 Topps. That's one of my faves from the entire set.

Russ-some really nice '64s there. That set is growing on me. I was looking at some '64 Yankees last night as I watched 61* on Blu Ray. The '64 Topps is probably my favorite Roger Maris card.

Bunch of awesome stuff this month.

That show grouping of raw has some of my favorite looking cards-- namely 73 Aaron and Clemente. Great action shots.

The 52 Mays is insane.

Then the Bazooka Mick and that rare variation for Chris?!

Getting a 1964 Topps set started this month. This is my first raw card addition. What grade would you give this card ? Looks like a solid 7 / NMT to me.

Found the writing on the back of the card to be very interesting. Niekro was being groomed as relief pitcher in 1963-64. There were not too many of them around in the early 60's. Little did they know he would go on to win 300 + games despite very little run support on some poor Braves teams. It says he worked for Uncle Sam in 1963. Any one know what he did ?

Hammerin'Hank

This card is not valuable but I love it ! Strikeout Leaders Card of Nolan Ryan and Phil Niekro. Talk about opposite tactics in accumulating strikeouts. Arguably the greatest knuckle baller of all time and arguably the greatest fast baller of all time on the same card, leading the NL and AL in SO in the same season.

Thanks Bill and Matt! Nice cards everyone. I love the Bazookas and really cool Who Am I.

Below are my latest acquisitions. I am attaching a photo of the collection and then some pictures of the stars. The Mantle is the only one that really fits into my collection, so I'll be piecing the others out in the near future. Still trying to decide whether to get them graded (some have pin holes), leave them as is, try to get them in an auction, consign them or sell them on eBay/Net54 (I don't want to hijack the thread but any thoughts would be appreciated via PM).

To answer your question, yes. Far too often. Luckily I've gotten that under control for now, and my savings are reflecting that. Soon I'll be able to play again ;)

By the way, is it just me, or does it look like Mick had one of his legendary nights before this shot was taken? :p

Was a great mail day for me today. Got the 3 1966 Topps cards with print offsets and several Wanderlei Silva MMA cards from COMC today. Also got a 1966 Bob Heffner Purple tree error version. A cool miscut 1973 Willie Mays., a1952 Bowman Bill Werle missing W error version. A 1957 Topps Ted Williams in the new PSA holder.

It is the first new PSA holder I have seen. It is within millimeters of being the exact same size/style as the GAI holders. It should help stop tampering but as a PSA hater now it will be much harder to rescue poor Ted from imprisonment.

I have been collecting Kansas City A's for years, but I came across a group of cards I have never seen, nor can I find any information about them. They measure 4" x 5" and have a glossy finish. They are blank backed. From the players I have, I would surmise they are from 1962 and probably team issued, similar to a picture pack. Anyone have any info about these? I am guessing they must be pretty scarce.

Hey Joe, I worked in sports information for many years, this looks like a set of player ID photos sent to each media outlet at the start of each season. They would then be used with out of town game stories and player bio type articles? Just a guess.
