View Full Version : Low Grade Pre-War Gems (Low Grade, High Eye Appeal)

One of the great thrills I get in this hobby is finding low grade cards that really look great, and in the best cases put an eye-appeal whipping on higher graded examples.

I think it would be great to see a veritable gallery of gems in this regard. Cards that just go to show it never has to be about numerical grade; cards that show you can often spend relatively less and wind up with a dynamite card. IMO these cards are really special.

So if you have any cards that are under say, grade 4 (for PreWar) and are freakishly pleasing to the eye, please post away.

Under a grade of 4? A 4 is quite high grade :)

Leon, that card might take the cake right there. If I owned that card in a 10, I'd be envious of that 1.5. To think how much less such a gem would cost and yet how well it presents!

Self-deleted as card shown wasn't Pre_War

This isn't PreWar, but it sure fits the bill as the nicest card I have ever seen for the grade!

Coincidentally I have it up for auction on the BST.

You don't happen to sell cars for a living do you? :D

Is this type of post allowed? The constant auction bumping is one thing, but spamming the main board with a completely irrelevant card just to try and sell it is very annoying. This thread is about pre-war baseball cards.

Just look at that gorgeous and clean Green Cy. I've seen some of those in 4 and 5 holders that get spanked by that 2. The CJ Barry, too.

Just more proof that the best card and best grade are not necessarily the same.

I'd pay more for some of these specimens than uglier specimens with higher numbers on the stickers, all day.

This one is genuinely pack-fresh, but creased right through the middle - probably would get a very low grade

I think that you pointing it out is probably enough. The poster (hi Fred) is a good and valued board member. Generally speaking this thread is for pre-war cards but I don't think being too heavy handed in moderating is good either.

Buy the card, not the holder:

I love a t206 with great registration and centering. Corner wear to me adds to the character.

That Bid McPhee is simply phenomenal! I'm guessing some back damage on the otherwise blank back?

The Crawford would be very high grade without the speck of paper-loss (would also be in someone else's collection). And I paid more for the Doyle than most 40s sell for. I'm very happy that I didn't let it get away.

My post & images were entered strictly to show a low grade card w/ very high eye appeal. The fact it was up for auction was just stating a fact. I do not run around Net54 posting to promote an auction--it was coincidental to the timing of the thread

I deleted my post & image as it was not Pre-War.

Thank you for the kind words Leon.

Luke & anyone else offended--I'm sorry! I try very hard to be a good & positive contributing member.

What is it with all these Cracker Jacks?

At some point I need to upgrade this one……
